I haven't posted on the forum for a while, and this is one of the hardest ones. About 2 weeks ago, I went to feed Pi and Kalypso, and found Pi had blood on his tail feathers. I've always been mostly hands off with Pi as he was so skittish of everything. To make matters worse, I had covid at the same time and had no way to rush him to the vet. I do, thankfully, have friends who are vets and we discussed what could be wrong - thought it was a preen gland cyst, maybe infection. He was booked for surgery on Tuesday the 12th but he died on Friday the 8th. Kalypso calls for him all the time.
I had people tell me that a parrotlet and budgie would not be a good pair - and honestly, if it was any other parrotlet, I'm sure they wouldn't have been. But Kalypso guarded Pi, she was totally bonded to him. He was almost 5, so young. My mom was even going to help me pay for his surgery. My husband had even realized just the night before how smart and sweet he was - he actually jumped down to get my husband's attention to talk to him. My heart hurts. Here's my beautiful boy just the week before. I'm assuming it was a tumor that spread fast. I was treating it with medihoney and he had metacam for pain. But it wasn't enough and not fast enough. Rest in peace my sweet baby.
