Stepping up can take time., be patient. One of my zon's was scared of hands. I've had them over 5 years now and he is just now okay with putting one foot on the hand. Barbara Heidenreich gave me some advice that got him stepping up.

You may want to offer your wrist or arm sometime. MC's issue seems to be the hand itself.
I have tried the arm but he seems to not like that I'm offering that to him. He seems a little more into the finger but he almost seems like he just can't even figure it out.

Time..... probably just time then.

I read somewhere that said we should talk when approaching parrots (the comment said because predators are normally quiet).

I always whistle or say good morning Dobby and I've always done that if they are covered and can't see me coming. I too think it helps give them a heads up so they don't get startled. All my birds tended to give me the stink eye when I woke them up in the morning. I think they like their quiet sleep time as much as we do. Of course when it's their idea that we need to be awake all bets are off.

This is true! Beaker knows my routine in the morning, when he sees me grab my bag he knows I'm out the door and he will give a yell and start dancing to try and get me to stay... I have to yell to him as I leave so he doesn't call for me all morning haha but giving him a warning call before I get in the room might work .

Wow, you've already made great progress! Such a cutie and I love the name! I would take it slow as others have suggested. If he does step up, stay very close to his cage at first so that he can hop off easily until he's comfortable.

I guess I spoke too soon...today when I came home I let him play around on his cage for a little bit. When I went over to get him to go back in I figured I would give my finger a go. I said step up and offered it... He stepped right up, he didn't want to stay there he much preferred the forearm. Very happy !!!

Such a cute little guy. Sad looking at his missing tail. Keeping my fingers crossed that he will stop feather damage long enough to regrow it on his next molt.

Me too! He seems to be leaving them alone. He didn't even have the four feathers he has now when we first took him home.... I have high hopes, I just keep him loaded with toys and time playing outside the cage,

Update. I'm very sad to announce , our family had a house fire....beaker (who we have since discovered was a girl) got out of the fire and was in the oxygen tank for 4 days....we brought her home, and a day later she passed away after I rushed to back to the vet. I tried everything to save her...but her little body couldnt take the smoke. The worse day of my life also took away one of the best things in it.... I'll miss her forever :(

Sorry about the house fire and your loss of Beaker. :sorrow: You gave Beaker a wonderful home and she knew that she was loved and cared for.

OH man I'm so sorry but sounds like you did everything you could for her and it was a case of horrible bad luck. I'm sure she knew she was safe and loved by your family and loved you back. :sadhug:
