Hi there

I have had my cockatiel Briggsy since around 6 months, he has bonded with me and we are very used to each other. Everything was fine until about 3 days ago when he was shivering and fluffed up, I checked his poos and they were not the right shape or colour. His were a range from: black, brown poo (not in the shape of his digestive tract) urate was white or yellow and urine was yellow. the only cause of this I could see was the seed, we got him Trill Nutrivit seed for the first time, I had already been feeding him different seeds and he was fine but this one was different. I wanted to take him to a vet but I am a minor and my parents don't understand that birds are fragile, I found him this morning barely able to move with fast breathing, he is very sleepy, my parents are not home currently so I cannot take him to a vet. I don't know whats going to happen to Briggsy.

I understand that you are a minor and can't do much on your own, but he is going to die if he doesn't get to a vet immediately. With the condition he's in, it may be too late regardless. Is there anyone you can call for help?

Do you even have an emergency number that you can call for the vet or for your parents @Staff

Any friends, neighbors, relatives nearby? Keep your bird very warm and put his food and water low in the cage right next to him. You might have to get fluids into him with a syringe. I hope he will be okay!

Do you have Cairo syrup and or Pedialyte Caro syrup is pure sugar it might give him a little extra energy for just a minute or two to help out Pedialyte needs to be half water half Pedialyte and given to him to drink this is only emergency procedure you need to get Him to a vet ASAP

Not much more I can add other than what @Cynthia & Percy said. Those are the last chance efforts and does sometimes work, but more often not.

Just drop Karo (about four drops) ON his tongue. Karo is pure sugar and converts immediately to energy. If you can get Pedialite down him with either a spoon or a syringe that will give him sugar, electrolytes and htdration. Keep him very warm and as quiet as possibly - no perching or flying - nothing.

I wish the very best for your baby,

I'm terribly sorry Oliver. Bigsy is flying high and free, healthy and looking down on you.
