Yesterday my young female budgie got attacked by my pet dog. no blood or wounds, just feathers missing, she seemed very shocked and just traumatized. But by nighttime, she was back to her normal self. however, now she is not eating, not singing, not being active, and has been holding her head very strangely. she just doesn't seem herself, and I'm getting extremely worried. she has also been making these super soft groanlike sounds. Please, what is happening to my bird!? More importantly, is it likely that she could die?

Welcome to the Avenue :hiya:

Your bird may have been injured and be hiding that injury as that is what birds do. Dog and cat saliva can be deadly to birds also.
Your bird really should be checked out by an AV ASAP.

If its not eating & looking poorly etc something is wrong
Even wo blood or obvious wound there coudl have been a crushing injury. Maybe a paw.
Cat saliva is deadly & sure dogs is not great. might have been a small puncture?

I wish the best for your budgie but surviving an initial attack is not everything, needs to be checked esp in the case of abnormal behavior such as not eating & lethargy...

Hope your little one is OK

Not eating is not a good sign at all...least get some fluids in her. I think they say water mixed with some pedialyte could be useful. Not 100 % sure on that so maybe someone can chime in...

How is your bird doing today @kiwithebug
Much better! We talked to a vet, who managed to find the source of the problem: a small puncture wound on her chest. he said she was likely holding her head strange to avoid pain. she got antibiotics and painkillers, but the vet said it was nothing serious. she finally ate this morning, too.

I'm glad you took her to the vet and I hope she heals quickly. Yes, dogs and birds aren't a good mix. No matter how nice the dog is. Those predator/prey instincts can kick in and accidents happen. Or just because of the size difference, an accident can happen.
