My bird seems to have lost her voice (URGENT HELP)

so my female cockatiel was eating when suddenly she tilted her head up and had her beak open, the seed sitting at the tip of her beak. she seemed to be choking.

i quickly picked her up and tilted her down 45 degrees and massaged her throat a little. soon enough after some effort, she seemed to relax. but when she tried to make a sound, only a faint, airy squeak came out. barely audible. she doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of having a hard time breathing though.

i offered her water, she didn’t drink (she drank two gulps before this whole ordeal so i guess she just doesn’t want to) but she did eat some spray millet in her cage. she even preened herself and now she’s grinding her beak with her eyes closed.

all of this happened within the span of 20 minutes, so it’s still fresh. should i be concerned? should i take her to the vet or wait and observe then take her to the vet later when she’s in a better mood? she doesn’t like going in the travel cage so i don’t want to unnecessarily stress her out after this incident unless it’s absolutely necessary.

i’m still new at being a bird mom and i’m very worried. i just want to make sure she’s comfortable.

I cant comment about her voice but as far as them looking like they’re choking, ive seen that a million times. I still get nervous when they do that. I always offer water. Most of the time they take a drink but sometimes not.
most of the time they’re just adjusting their crop but it sure makes you think.
If your birds voice has returned, i wouldnt worry about.

As you are new to birds, you will see this from time to time.

If your bird has lost its voice you are best to see a vet.

It wasn’t the same as her adjusting her crop. it seemed like she was trying to cough something out.

Anyway, her voice did return. She was resting so I just let her be for a bit. Then a few hours later I realised she isn’t using her voice much. I guess she strained it. I’ll take her to the local vet tomorrow morning.

For now I’m just sort of letting her rest. She ate a bunch of spray millet on her own. She refuses to drink water or eat from her bowl though. Maybe the incident made her feel wary idk. The incident was stressful. It was a few minutes of her struggling to breathe but eventually she managed to swallow. Thankfully now she can breathe normally but she does seem to be holding back from making a sound. I did hear her regular chirp a few hours ago, but only once. I suppose she’s avoiding it because it hurts still.

Is there anything I can do until the vet visit?

I will. I just wanted to know if it was urgent to race her there. I didn’t want to throw her into another stressful situation right away. But she managed to stabilise herself.

She’s okay now. She’s breathing okay, she’s eating her favourite treat. She won’t drink or eat from her bowls, which… i dunno if that’s the traumatic event or if she’s just being picky as usual. She’s preening and grinding her beak though and she asked for scritches. She even fought with her mate as usual. So, I guess it’s nothing alarming? I’m hoping.
