Hi! I have three chicks left from a clutch of five born a bit before Christmas. Moose is the most mature/first hatch, Blue is middle sized, & Sprout who is a good bit behind but steadily catching up.

Anyway, Moose & Blue are both to the point where they are starting to explore & be more curious when I open the nest box. The nest box is taller with a drop & I don't want them to fall out trying to explore BUT Sprout is nowhere near that stage yet. QUESTION IS do I put everyone is an open, low box w/o a lid so Moose & Blue can explore but Sprout is still safe & tucked away? I don't have a heating pad for a proper brooder set up though... OR do I remove Moose & Blue into their own cage already & leave Sprout with mom & dad in the nest? First time dealing with baby birds so really need some advice.

Are you handfeeding? I used to raise lovebirds and would take them out of the nest box at 3/4 weeks (yours look pretty close to around that age). At this age, they need to be hand fed 3-4 times a day.

With my last clutch, I took the chicks at 23/24 days old. I just took the nest box off the parents cage. They lived in the box til they looked like your birds at the top there, then they started climbing out the nest so I put the nesting box in a spare cage on the cage floor.
If the parents are feeding that tiny baby, take the other 2 and leave the little one with mum and dad ´til his wing feathers start coming through.

My chicks are 20 days old, so i´ll be taking them in a few days. I have a little one too, but unfortunately the parents haven´t fed it in weeks so it will have to come wih the others.

I always made sure the chicks were out on the sofa snuggled on a fluffy pijama top or something when I let the parents out to fly, that way they could still keep contact and socialise. And I intend on doing the same this time.

Thank you both! Now that the older/bigger 2 are out & about the parents seem to have lost interest in caring for the little one at allI did manage to find a heating pad & set up a brooder type box but I feel like Sprout is having trouble keeping warm still. The mom & dad are still feeding the older 2 but I may need to remove them to their own cage & handfeed everyone? Most concerned that Sprout gets what it needs & I'm hoping that removing the older 2 will get the parents interested in Sprout again.
