I’m running into troubles with the drug administration . Flips out when seeing the syringes and getting a grip has resulted in the latest trick . My bird now dose backflips to avoid liquids and holds them in bottom of beak when finally delivered witch always tends to spill some . I’m thinking he’s mentally better , but still physically challenged . Some difficulty defecating but i think it’s part of lower area paralysis , but still gets it out . What do you guys think about continuing drug program . I’ll be asking the vet. on Thursday , but would appreciate a second opinion . Thanks , Scott

Give meds in food he likes?

A tiny piece of toast holds the meds. You have to learn to be smarter than they are.

I’ll definitely try that . I hate being the bad guy anyway . Plus it beats the back flips . How long is enough with the meds ? , it’s tough to tell because of all the little improvements , if there really working or just time at work . Any long term damage ? Thanks

When my BFA was sick and needed to be medicated the only way I could get that medication into him was to put it on a very small piece of pound cake. Not healthy but this was the only thing that worked. Hopefully you can put the medication on something healthier and more nutritious that he is willing to eat.

Secret is currently fighting meds and I used Beechnut green beans baby food yesterday and today (can't recall if it's organic but no other stuff in it like salt or additives).

I put a TINY bit of baby food and put meds in it. After that's eaten, I give a tiny bit more baby food.

I have itty bitty little metal containers for special treats. You can also hold those for them and birds are spoiled (and loved).

Casey is having liver issues, too. He's going in for blood work and a beak trim in two weeks. Right now he's just on Senior Nutriberries and OFBs as well as mixed veggies. Tried Roudybush low fat with him and that was a big failure. Which medication is Secret getting?

The bottle reads: Lactulose 30cc/Milk Thistle-Echin-Dar

The vet puts it together and Secret gets 0.3cc twice a day (says every 12 hours)

She gets pellets, occasional senior nutriberries, veggies and occasional almond slivers.

I blew it with the quinoa and the bad values went up. Repeating blood draw in 4 to 6 months

@Clueless I'm assuming Echin is Echinacea and Dar is Dandelion root.
Casey still gets some seed but very little and only every other day.
I know there's seed as part of the Sr. Nutriberries. Vet recommended
feeding him a few Cheerios and walnuts but I've not been good about doing that.

@Hankmacaw told me to limit nuts to the almond slivers.

Her you can see the difference in the nutritional value of Almonds compared to walnuts. The biggest difference it that Almonds have less bad fats and more of the good fats.
