If it wasn’t for the feet issues , he seems fairly normal. On my lap a half hour before meds to try an stretch out toes . Didn’t seem to bother him , but had a great time ripping the Malibu Times a new one . Pretty good considering he stayed stationary . Vet appointment at 10am . I try and post more if the diagnosis good

@Gandolf Good on ya. Those dosages are well within the acceptable parameters. I always check the dosage and the total milligrams given against the acceptable amounts. Even paharmacists and veterinarians (or their staff) can make an error now and then.

Once I had to get a prescription of Amoxicillin from a people pharmacy and they put a 5ml dosage on the bottle instead of 0.5ml - quite a difference - and I would have had a very sick bird if I had just blindly followed the instructions on the bottle. Never hurts to check up.

And the nightmare continues . Call into vets office and spoke with someone who put me on hold to go talk to the vet from my original Monday visit . She said tomorrow would be fine , so there I am at 9am trying to check in after the previous days call , there was no record of anything . No Appointment , nothing . I’m standing at there front entery door and this guy telling me I got it all wrong , my bird not an emergency and at least a two hour wait to be serviced . My birds going to need someone on the same page . They also neglected to say yesterday , that original vet is there Sun through Wens. . This vet complex with five different venues is definitely to big for there britches . Meanwhile , I split and headed back to larger cage land . What a waste of time , at least the records are accessible , but CT’s and MRI are not everywhere . Also finding a vet with OK review in the bird world is sorta slim as well . My bird seems to be more alert every day but the righthand in still quenched 24/7 . He’s freaking in lockdown mode , hard to keep him calm . Apitite seems ok but definitely lost a little , but nothing seems to be happening from the anti inflammatory with foot ? Should I stop the pain killer ? . Can I wait till Sunday when original vet is in ? . Anywho , thanks as usual for any and all replies . The pic is a little fresh air and a foot stretch . Scott

I would not stop the meloxicam. It also has anti-inflammatory properties - pretty good ones. The Gabapentin keeps him calmer, addresses nerve pain and is a good anti-seizure medication. If it were me I would not stop either. Giving it to him will don no harm.

You will have to make that decision. Depends on if he is steadily improving or if he still has symptoms you are very concerned with. Need hands on to make that decision.

Sorry that happened to you. Is it possible you can get an appt. with one of the other Avian specialists there?
Appts. are taking so much longer due to the Covid protocol. I arrived at 10:30 the last time I was there
and didn't until about 12:45. Then it took me an hour and a half to get home. I have now
switched to an veterinary internal medicine specialist 10 mins. away from where I live. I've been taking
Geordie, my Bichon, to ACCESS Culver City since 2012 but the wait and the drive is too much. The more local
place squeezed him in so he could be seen as soon as possible as a first time patient. It's not all about
time and location, though, so it's good that I like and trust the new specialist.

Wishing you the best!

He’s been going nuts trying to climb up to top of cage for days , so I disconnected the overhead perch and let him roam around while never more than three inches away . He perched on his own and looked stable , so I moved some water and food up there and he hung out for 40 minutes before dismounting backwards to top of cage . Great way to stretch out those paws . at this rate I might hold out till Sunday vet appointment , but we’ll have to see how tomorrow goes . Thanks again to all you great folks , It feels like a feathered family . Scott

Sounds like he may be resolving the issue on his own. That's great, but don't let down yet. Like I said neural issues take a long time to resolve. I'm sure your care and attention have done a lot for him.

Nothing good about the foot troubles . I took him back to vet yesterday and was-told that he had lost weight since the visits a-week before And they want to keep him for observation tree days and get his weight back up . Plus blood work and X-rays showed that everything was great . Even had a neurologist took a look and got nothing . Meanwhile, they offer no encouraging hope for a recovery , let alone a full recovery, and won’t answer questions about hand feeding , or filling crop on my own , but said their tube feeding was tolerated ok . If I can’t feed him while trying to recuperate him , than he’s a goner . I tried constantly for a week to feed him , but he’ll only eats when he wants so I’m screwed if I can’t play Moma bird and fill the crop . Living on a very tight fixed income has its drawbacks . In the last ten days , I’ve spent $1965.00 , and that’s with no $1000.00 CT scan witch might reveal some hidden damage but it doesn’t matter if they can’t fix it . Very tough to decide the next step if i can’t keep his weight up , and I neurol care is just nuts anyway , he might be going to the happy hunting grounds . Anywho , sorry I lost touch , but this whole thing is freaking me out in a huge way . This guy turns 35 on Tuesday and I had a Nanday for 11 years prior to Gandalf . I hate to imagine a household with no birds . can I hand feed a 35 year old bird ? , Scott

My grown up birds love to be hand fed daily with a 1ml syringe (very skinny syringe) and Nutristart baby bird formula. It’s low in fat compared to other baby bird formulas which is good for me.

My birds a chewer . Is there a heavy duty syringe? Plus the breeder kinda scared me saying you can burst their crop , but that was baby mode . Is there a volume amount for adult crops of Amazon’s ? Are adult crops easy to burst ? . Can Nutristart be obtained on Amazon ? Thanks for the encouraging words , Scott

I mix a tablespoon of formula with warm water into a syringable slurry. If he wastes some toss it and make less next time
