Yeaaaah... she pulled off the scab again. BUT the wound is sooo very small now, that it's okay! Gave her her first post-surgery bath... smelly bird. She's now sulking on her Atom.

Well, we have another problem now... The vet had plucked the entire section of feathers before doing the surgery. The feathers are coming back in now... ALL at once! She's got like a million pinnies stabbing her on her leg. Poor girl... must be itching something terrible.

Okay, I think I can officially say that the wound is completely HEALED! :yahoo:

I'm really worried she might do it again, though. I'm going back to school soon and will not be able to let her out for almost the whole day, like I've been doing during her recovery. :(

Glad it is healed!!!!!!

The reduced time is a little bit of a worry but just keep an eye on her when you get home and if she does start it again it's something you can focus on then. Just glad it's all over with for now :)

Glad to know she's recovered. Its odd she self mutilated without overpreening or plucking anything else. I think if she were mine, I'd focus on foraging toys, some simple trick training to keep her brain engaged and maybe try to take her on an outing a few times a week if she handles that sort of thing well. All that sort of stuff does wonders for my large cockatoo when she starts to get a little weird and obsessive about things. Although, considering the lack of other plucking and very sight specific mutilation, I'd wonder if its something physical rather than behavioral. Hopefully whatever it is has resolved itself.

Target plucks under her wings and barbers her flight feathers.

I need to commission toys especially for Target... she likes balsa, balsa, balsa, palm, and thin pine. Soft and easy stuff, basically. Scared of toys that are too large in size, or too funky in appearance. Any vendors up for the challenge? :D
