I just found a penny-sized open wound on Target's side; I think she's been mutilating herself. I'm trying frantically to find a vet right now. Please keep us in your thoughts.

The wound does not look new -- the blood is dried and crusted over. Can't believe I didn't notice until now...

I live with my Dexter who mutilates under both her wings. I know your worried. It's good that the wound is scabbed over. Hopefully Target leaves it alone. An antibiotic may be needed. Sending prayers.

I dont think you should rush off tonight. But wait until morning to see your avian vet. Unless the wound is quite large and she's having a difficult time moving, etc.

Zazu also self mutilates, like Greycloud's Dexter, under his wings. As long as the area is clean and doesn't look infected it should be ok. Not an emergency situation if it's not bleeding but keep an eye on it. Definitely take him to the vet and maybe get the area tested in case of infection. My Zazu gets staphylococcus infections on the areas he picks. :(

Couldn't find a vet I trusted open that late, and certainly not on a Sunday :( I've spoken with a few people, and as it's not bleeding and doesn't look infected, I'm scheduling her vet visit for tomorrow.

What tests shall I have the vet do tomorrow?

Terrible.
Has there been any different behaviours lately?
Any changes?
No changes as far as I can tell, at least not bad ones. She's finally coming out of a long hormonal phase. Eating better. Bathing more.

She did have a bad previous home though. But it's been two years, thought she was getting better :(

One thing is she's always plucked the feathers under her wings, and she chews her flight feathers. But she's been like that since I got her, and I thought she's been doing that less already...?
