Cutest Bird Ever!!!
Moss passed away last night, extremely suddenly. It looked like there was profuse bleeding from the vent. There was a lot of blood underneath perches in two main pools & around the cage. Cloud tried to convince me to somehow resurrect him. Aurelius & Marzipan screamed a lot. Now every budgie is subdued. Cloud is on Moss' favourite swing.
Moss' body was taken to Lynwood Animal Hospital for a postmortem. The preliminary, cosmetic one showed: great body condition; eating 'till the end; bleeding in the lower digestive tract; very acute with no devitalisation of tissue. She mentioned the possiblity of something that sounded like ulcer colitis in the voicemail, but said it's very uncommon. I've never heard of this.
Tuesday I have to call them to have the choice to either have a more intensive postmortem in house by the avian vet or to send his body to a pathologist. Either way ends in cremation, but I'm waiting to hear if the pathologist offers individual cremation (I don't want collective cremation). They would then determine if the other budgies require tests or if it was a physical issue.
It's a very sad New Year's Eve. Moss may have been here just shy of 33 days, but he is very much loved & missed. At least his wings will be unclipped sooner than they would've been on earth. Fly free, my precious, little one. You are loved. You may have been small, but you are irreplaceable, unique, priceless.
Welcome to eternity, Moss. I'll see you at the bridge.
