Hi…I am new here. I have a Yellow Nape Amazon that was diagnosed with Borna Virus. The only symptom she shows is liquid poop, but the probiotic and anti inflammatory don’t seem to be helping. She’s been on them for many months. I read that it’s good to give them milk thistle, but can’t find anywhere what dosage in liquid tincture to give. She takes her other meds by mouth syringe and I would like to give her this the same way. How many cc’s are normally given to an Amazon parrot? And, what brand is most recommended? Thank you so much for any advice you can give me.

you need to be sure the product is alcohol free
here is one source, and the webpage also lists the dosages, it is based on the concentration of the product so these dosages might not be the same for other brands of milk thistle.
If at all possible, to be sure you bird gets the correct dose, do not give it in their water dish but give the drops by mouth.
MILK THISTLE / DANDELION

Thank you so much! I see this has dandelion in it, too. Should she have both with Borna virus? I definitely plan to give her drops in her mouth. She’s very good at taking her meds that way. I really appreciate you!

I don't think the dandelion will cause any harm. It would be of use here because it reduces inflammation in the liver.
It is a bit of a diuretic and blood thinner too but I don't think that should be a problem although you can check that with your vet about interactions with other meds he might be on.
There is another option on Amazon that is just milk thistle, but it does not give dosing info for birds. It is Nature's Answer Milk Thistle Alcohol free.

Thank you! That’s what I noticed with the 100% milk thistle…they don’t give dosage info for parrots.
