When I was a little boy we had rats and mice. The rats especially were very social and tame. We had white, hooded, and black rats that looked like a wild rat. The black ones were new to the pet trade and my best friend was Ratty who rode around with me every where I went. He loved getting his head stroked, getting treats, and riding on my shoulder or in a pocket if I had a safe one for him. This was in the mid sixties. We also had Gerbils and a hamster much later.

Last night was my second night of having them. I missed those little rat noises so much. Thud, bump, squeak, cage bar twanging noise, rustle, crunch crunch crunch. They haven't figured out how to use the water bottle yet, so I don't have the "click click click click click click click click click click click" noise yet.
