Hi everyone, its currently past midnight for me and I’m really hoping someone can give me some advice on what to do because I am so scared right now

This just happened now the last 15 minutes, my lovedird went to enter his cage, got startled by my movement and idk I think he flew up or something but his movement suddenly felt off, he kept opening his right wing and seemed unbalanced. When I grabbed him to check him out, I noticed that he wasn’t moving one of his claws… he was trying to grasp my hand with one claw to escape but the other wasn’t moving, even when I offered my finger it wasn’t grasping anything. Now he is in his cage but there seems to be no movement in his paw at all???

I don’t know it is broken or if he lost all sensation, he is still stretching his wing out almost to find balance it seems maybe. He’s not used to hands, he has never been seen by a vet and I’m also scared to bring him because I can’t seem to find any specialized in birds and I’m somehow scared they will not be gentle with such a small bird.

Does anyone have any advice on what could be happening. What I should do for the night to keep him safe and what I can do in general I am so scared right now that this is permanent???? Please help

If you have a small carrier type cage it could be helpful but it also could stress him more. Is he able to perch and be left calm and quiet for a bit?

A vet is always best as we can't tell you what happened but until you decide where to bring him is he comfortable now?

He’s currently in a smalller cage and has eventually settled to stay on the bottom. There were no emergency avian vets available currently, and the emergency vet that I could reach seemed really unsure about their ability to treat birds, so I’m not risking it. I hope he will stay relaxed until tomorrow morning so I can bring him to a specialist.

I held him just now (he was hanging on the side of the cage, I wanted to settle him on the bottom of the cage) and it does seem like there is some sensation in his claw since he grabbed me slightly but not with his usual force. So that leads me to believe it is more likely to be broken rather than paralysed. I really hope he can recover well this literally breaks my heart right now

Just let him be. Make sure he has a quiet area, food and water near and make sure he is warm. Hopefully he is not in to much pain and can see someone in the morning

This description could fit a stroke better than a broken bone.

We went to see an avian vet today, she didn’t see any signs of a fracture and suspects it is just sore, she gave some painkillers for the next 5 days and he should be doing better by then!
