Hello, my beloved pretty girl Tango(peach-faced lovebird) passed away from an accident last week. I feel so guilty, am broken hearted, and miss her so much every day. I'll never be able to replace her as she was strong and aggressive but would sleep on me and loved scritches.

I`m was looking at a pet store the other day and really love the look of the blue masked (yellow-collared lovebird). I would get him/her as a baby. I know it is soon after the passing of my last bird. But I`m off a few weeks for Christmas and will work sparingly till April. It`s a good time to take care and spoil my new baby.

Any comments on taking of these types of lovebirds in comparison to the Peach-faced?

I am very sorry for your recent loss.

Black masked lovebirds (Personatus) are from the Personata group aka eye ring type lovebirds and they are known to be a little more feisty and nippy than peach faced (Roseicollis) lovebirds.... But this is stereotypical and all birds are individual.

They are a slight bit smaller and don't shreds paper and tuck into their rumps like Roseicollis birds do

A lot of their care is the same. They enjoy the same types of toys, need the same space and housing conditions. Same diet.
So you will find you have knowledge and experience from the beginning given you have previously lived with a lovebird.

Be careful bringing home a new bird if you don't know the cause of death. Investigate so you have an answer. Sterilise things well, but buy new wood and other natural materials where possible.

Sorry for the loss of Tango.
What Zara said is what I would say as well. I have fischeri's(also an eye ring species like personatas) and they seem a little more active then roseicollis but their care is the same. Mine get along find with my roseicollis, 1 fischeri even liked one of the roseicollis a bit too much.
Good luck with your decision! Will you post pictures if you get him/her?
