Hello everyone.

Woke my little birdy up this morning to find her sleeping in her foraging cup again........... and there is now a little egg in there!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to start doing some research to find out what I shoud do...
Does anyone have any information for me?

She is a year and a half old, the foraging cup is at the bottom of her cage, she is my only bird

Thank you in advance, Lacey

What type of a bird is Mango?
Leave the egg and give her another foraging cup.....
If you can, reduce the amount of lighting she is getting at this time to about 9-10 at the most....not knowing where you are located, some parts are going into summer and that is hard to do...:hug8:

I am from ontario Canada.
She is a peach faced lovebird
do you mean give her 9 to 10 hours of day light?

How long do I leave the egg there for?

Thank you for your response lol, I am really new to this!

Aw so you found out your lovie is a little girl how cute!! I would try giving her calcium since she is laying eggs and would definitely reduce the hours of daylight like BF said.

thanks!

What do I do with the egg?
Also when I take her out of her cage, we go into another room, (too many christmas stuff to play with and break)
Do you think we will have any problems with this? I guess if I do I just let her say with the egg for the time being right?

Well at least you now you definitely know she is a girl!

Just leave the egg until she abandons it, otherwise she might just keep laying more eggs when you take them away.

As for taking her out of the cage, she might not want to if she's brooding the egg, but you can still try. I'd just let her come out on her own if she wants.

The only problems I'd really watch out for are egg binding... also make sure she has lots of calcium and like BF said, reduce the daylight:)

Most birds abandon their eggs after about a month. She'll just stop brooding it, then you'll know you can take the egg(s) away:)

As for signs of egg binding, some include: laboured breathing, constipation, straining to pass an egg, fluffed feathers, swelled abdomen. Of course, even if she's laying an egg normally, her abdomen will be swelled, but you just want to keep a close eye on her to make sure she's going to pass the egg okay.
