Hello,

I have a 6 month old female hahns macaw and a 5 month old male hahns macaw.
They live in the same cage. They dont fight and get along well. The female is very cuddly and affectionate. She is always wanting my attention. The male is more reserved. He steps up and gives kisses but doesnt like being touched. Since yesterday he has started plucking my female hahns feathers from the back of her neck. She doesnt seem to mind,. When i got home from work today i see a minor bald patch starting on the back of her neck :(
What would make him do this? He is easy going, not aggresive or dominant.
She is my pride and joy so i dont want her looking like a naked chicken.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

I'd separate them.

Overpreening can cause issues later down the line so separate cages with time out together is better right now than being in the same cage.

Yep - you will have to separate them. There is no way to stop him from plucking her and it will just get worse.
