My baby a few hours still. Well, not so much a baby anymore. He eats well, flies well, sleeps alone, and his feathers are much better. He moves out this afternoon. A new family eagerly awaits his arrival, and his bird mom is getting tired of him.

Its time. And my heart is heavy :-(

Shade, I love this picture of Piper.

I get the giggles every time I see it because all I think is "I'm an Eagle, I'm an Eagle!"

image.jpg Our two cuties having had a bath and enjoying some sun. :) no harness but they drench themselves and can't fly due to overly wet wings so they get to have a couple of minutes outside to soak up some sun and chew on the leaves then back in before their wings are dry. Only when it's not windy and sunny tho. :)
Sometimes we think they deliberately half drown themselves to get a sneak outside.

I finally found a friend for poor Harley. He was so depressed when Gracie Tiel died. Her name is BlueBird, she is two years old and hand tame. She was very depressed and upset and missing her original daddy for the first week and flock called for him constantly. I felt so bad for her. But Harley was immediately attracted to her and it only took him two weeks to convince her he isn't such a bad guy. I had been keeping her in her own cage at first since I did not want a territorial problem with Harley if he objected to having another bird in his cage after living alone for two years. But a week ago I went into the birdroom and Blue was not in her cage; she was in Harley's cage sleeping close to him. I have left her cage in the birdroom, but she is ignoring it and spending her sleep time in Harley's cage. She allows him to sit very close to her, but he is not allowed to touch her yet; even if he accidently touches her, she gives him beak about it. They are always in the same area when I go into the birdroom when they are out, so I guess they are bonding.

I finally got some pictures of Harley and also, of course, of Blue as well. I am not sure what mutations they are, but they are definitely not regular PFLBs! I was surprised at Blue's colors; I had never seen a lovebird with a yellow forehead and white face. Blue is a fantastic little girl and I really enjoy petting her. She is a little nippy right now, but she is still adjusting to a new home. Pictures added.

I have two little darling lovebirds, both completely tame and free-flying in my home

Sally cutie.jpg

Sally Birdie
Age: Close to 4 (gotcha date May 5, 2010)
Gender: Female - DNA'd.
Species: Peachfaced Lovebird, Agapornis roseicollis
Likes: Nesting (A LOT! chronic egglayer), red millet, corn, peas, sunflower seeds, organic apple juice, shredding papers (bank papers are the BEST!), my husband, a fluffy ferret tunnel, our kitchen cupboard where we (used to) keep the wine glasses (best place EVER to start a nest), and last but not least, teasing Tequila.
Dislikes: Hands (but not my husband's), the Avian Vet, having her cage covered at night, a little green knitted toy mouse named Edwin (poor thing has suffered a thousand horrid deaths already)

Tequila office.jpg

Tequila Sunrise
Age: 3 and some (gotcha date Sep 20, 2010)
Gender: Male - DNA'd.
Species: Peachfaced Lovebird, Agapornis roseicollis
Mutation: Lutino
Likes: everybody - but ME the most, red millet, corn, peas, broccoli, sunflower seeds, kisses, preening my eyelashes, snuggles in my scarf or inside my sweater, a fluffy ferret snuggle-bag stolen from Sally (ha!), dosing off on my pillow on way-too-early-to-get-up Saturday and Sunday mornings, feeding me corn (preferably thru my ear!), scritches under the wings. Shredding papers in our office.
Dislikes: his cage, his travel carrier, generally being closed up. Having his nails trimmed.

I'm new here so I thought I would post my new Lovie, PICKLES! Not sure if it's a boy/girl.....Pickles is 9 weeks old & has a splayed left leg. Right leg may be a bit splayed as well but not as bad. This does not stop Pickles by any means! Not sure what mutation Pickles is but maybe a seagreen dutch blue American Cinnamon....?? Pickles came home @ about 5 weeks so I needed to hand feed for a bit but we managed and now Pickles eats fruit/veggies, birdie bread, chop, pellets, some seeds and millet as a treat.

I also have a YS Gelreen Cheek, Orly, who is 6 yrs old and still warming up to Pickles but she (DNA'd) is still being nice. Just working out if she is jealous or not o_O
