Hi everyone,
Been a while since I've posted but I need help again!
I noticed my lovebird Gordie's poop was different three days ago - really liquid based and brown, as opposed to the normal greeny stuff. I haven't changed anything in his diet so was quite worried and have been monitoring him. His behaviour was fine, eating and drinking, so it seemed he was OK. However yesterday he was really clingy and sleepy and this morning he was favouring one leg and now can't use his left leg at all.
Does anyone know what this could be???? I have an appt at avian vet in three hours but am really worried.

We just got a new lovebird mate three weeks ago, who he loves, but I'm worried she may have brought something into the cage...?Help!

Glad you are getting him to a vet. I hope he will be Ok.
It's recommended to quarantine new birds for 30 days before introduction.
You might have to have both checked depending on what vet finds.

hi, thanks for your kind wishes :)
I thought that about quarantining for behavioural reasons as well but the breeder seemed to think he would be OK with introduction after 2 weeks. Will keep thread updated.

You should always get new birds vet-checked and do a quarantine before contact between birdies. I hope your little guy is okay.

Hi everyone thanks for your messages.
Gordie's paralysis spread to his right leg very quickly - within hours of this initial post. Three hours after this post we were at the vets where he suffered a fatal seizure. I'm absolutely gutted.

All morning I was googling and found quite a few cases similar to Gordie and I hope if anyone reads this post and are in a similar situation you are able to msg me for help. The vet said paralysis is almost always neurological and therefore nothing can be done, but there are exceptions. She was explaining that he may not make it as he seized. I am considering asking the vet to do a post mortem so I know one way or the other what happened to him.

:sorrow:

So sorry he could not be helped. Least you tried. I would agree a post mortem would help in knowing what happened so possibly you could help the other lovie in case it was contagious.

Fly free Gordie, over every rainbow.
Please take comfort in knowing there was nothing you could have done, you did all you could. He knew he was loved every day he was with you. :)
