Working on taming with my newest love bird. She would freeze when I entered the room on day one and two but day three she is cautiously accepting millet through the cages of the bar. I have my chair next to the cage and made sure I’m lower down so she feels more powerful. She’s coming to the bottom of the cage, inspecting me and then running off. But so much progress in such little time.
She looks like she wants to keep getting closer, tilts her head but then backs off. She seems to be very curious! Hopefully not too much damage was done when I needed to remove her from the cage to go to the vets.

that isn’t poo in the second photo, she’s been tucking the foraging grass into her wings

Brave but cautious! She can hear sonic even though he’s two rooms away. They keep setting each other off ☺
I look forward to her having her big cage (this is just until she’s seen the vet again in 3 weeks and she’s healthy) :) 57314176-B3AB-44A7-A968-8498ABFDD4BA.jpeg

Update:

she came out a few days ago, found that she stretches both wings together! So cute.

her flying is awful so I brought her her own flight cage (£85) so not bad! It’s 72cm across and stands up nearly as tall as me! I cannot wait for her to finish her quarantine!!!! :) she has been out twice because I simply cannot stand for her to be in a cage for three weeks but she’s away from Sonic at all times still (separate rooms) I will update when her new cage is set up

she will take millet from my palm but takes a minute to think about it.. sometimes she will scream and fly away if I move too fast, but she is doing so well! 7B071E7A-968C-4158-9E42-F44822E9B593.png 8476F85F-6349-482F-A238-31C79EE0C7A0.jpeg

She just looks so lost bless her!
the crap perches are in there until the others arrive but she likes to go to the bottom to forage so I’ve just put them in there for 2 days max. All other perches are textured.

In her other cage she always gravitated to the perch in the top left, so I’ve put that one back there and her food and water and close to that one... and guess what, she’s back in the top left lol

Her vet visit is on the 3rd of March and he’ll let me know if she’s well and if I can start introducing her to sonic :)

excuse the mess, I have yet to put everything away!

They´re ok in there for a few days :)
The problem with dowels are when they are the only perches, and birds sit on them for long periods of time. If you left one of those dowels low down, your bird would likely just hop on and hop off it anyway, and that´s fine.

Thank you! Saying this she seems to have claimed them now she’s more settled! She’s very vocal today - just made a private video but visible only to those with a link, but here she is, the noisy gal in question!

Just got back from the vets. Look who is all clear and discharged! Clear lungs, bright eyes, clear nose, soft tummy and good beak and nails.
I’m so happy I could cry!

I will now start to socialise her with sonic in a neutral area. I will update of course!

Is it normal for them to be inseparable already? I ask because they are preening on a communal stand but she goes to her cage and calls and he comes in and they eat together. They have only been out together for 3/4 hours. Obviously I’m in the room and close by when they are out but I cannot separate them

Sometimes they can take a while to be with another bird, other times they hit it off right away!

Nice to see your girls are getting on very well! :)

Are they DNA sexed females?

neither are sexed, could be two males really! That’s to be determined at a later date:) they are noisy buggers together!

Just be sure if you get any eggs, to boil and (mark with a dot of a sharpie) put them back where you found them. Just in case.

Please do share more video clips as they go on, they´re so sweet together :swoon:

Yes, I would like to discourage any egg laying though, getting egg bound really worries me. They always have access to calcium and I have supplements and UV light so I’m hoping we will be fine if this did occur.

she has been coming out of the cage more and follows him everywhere. They like to poo on my curtains.

They still don’t sleep in the same cage at night but they spent all day together. I’m just a bit worried about leaving them alone when I’m sleeping. They did have a squabble yesterday but that’s because sonic was getting inside the food bowl when she was trying to eat (despite having three food bowls!) but they kissed and made up seconds later

I know it was hard for me too when leaving new pairs together overnight.
Jaime and Aldora took to each other so quick, like on the first day! I think I housed them together after just a few days.
Sydney and Adelie, It was months of them being in her cage for some spells during the day, out of the cage together, but sleeping apart.

I did this for the first time last night. I had a baby monitor to listen for any squabbles but they were perfect.I’m feeling such relief!

on another note, Chao (after running and screaming when you ever the cage)will now step up!!! (She’s not very good at stepping down though!) and will also fly on to my head if sonic is there. I have added videos below:

Her first attempt at flying to me:

and her second:

Today I actually cried after the step up. It’s been really difficult as she was essentially feral! She took her first bath this week too (only after watching sonic)
