Hi all

my love bird has been having issues with his eye. I noticed on the cage camera that he wasn't opening it and managed to get in to see the avian vet. He had rubbed it so much it was swollen.
She gave him a drop to numb it and checked for any scratches but there was nothing. The inflamed eye is being treated with metacam and the swelling seems to have reduced a little bit but he is still rubbing his head on everything which I fear will only make it worse.
Is there anything natural I can put on the area? He's being seen Monday again but it's Saturday today. First photo is the photo before the vets and second is now

How long did the veterinarian say to apply the metacam for?

With eye stuff I would hesitate to try to experiment with anything. Even most natural stuff they say to avoid eye areas. Does your vet have office hours today that you could at least call and ask what to do until tomorrow?

Hi both

really sorry I forgot about this thread.

metacam was oral and there was two lots of eye drops only.

he did rub for a bit but actually it cleared up after a few days - I consulted the vet and she said to stop the anti inflammatory meds.
He is back to his normal self and has been checked over.

the vet has speculated that it could have been caused by then putting their chilli in the water and bathing

Tell that little stinker to leave out the seasoning when he decides to bathe next. They sure love to find trouble!
