Anyone got one of these? There's a pair sold in our local pet store and i was wondering if these could be tamed to the point that it can be outside its cage without planning to escape. Thanks!

They sell hanging parrots in your local pet shop :jawdrop1:
They are a group that I've researched a bit but have never read anything by someone keeping them as companion birds. Are these blue crowned hanging parrots? They're often described as 'shy'.

If the pair are very young birds, I'd expect you to have a higher chance of getting them fairly tame. Even older birds would probably get used to your presence but might never deign to eat from your hand. It depends what you want from them. They're very pretty and interesting but that has to be weighed up against the specialist diet and the messy poos that go with it!

Ohh i see.. i asked the store owner earlier and said they were imported somewhere from Asia. They don't seem to have that 'blue coloration' so they're probably a different subspecies.

They were feeding it mangoes and bananas when i arrived and the birds seem to like it so much.

They doesn't seem to be that nervous around humans but i guess you're right, that's the closest to a human interaction they can handle. I'll try my luck to get them this weekend. They were selling so cheap (about $20 worth for the pair) but i guess their unique feeding style and unusual care requirements is what's keeping this bird from being sold here haha :dance4:

I had 3 some years ago. One was raised from a chick and was tame for a while, and then just reverted and wanted nothing to do with me. They are tiny, funny and endearing. However the whole feeding and pooping adventure is another issue. First getting their diets right, and then cleaning the wet poop from all surrounding surfaces. They are poop shooters! Hanging upside down as they do, they just shoot that liquid cement out in all directions! Oh yeah, fun times.

My avatar pic is of my oldest girl, an eight year old B.smithi that i had since my college years. I thought i had a boehmei but it turned out to be a B.klaasi haha! I had a 4-inch female OBT about a couple of weeks ago. Trying my hand on a more quick species.

All of my 7 spiders are females.

Got pics of yours?

Klaasi? Lucky!!! My klaasi girl just died. I don't have any pics of my Brachys, but I have one of a lovely big female L. parahybana I have. I'll have to take some. Unfortunately I'm at work now, so no access to pics. I have about 20 T's.

My OBT is the fastest, nastiest thing I have!! Hey, did you ever get the hanging parrots? They really are a pain to clean up after.

20? Omg that's a lot haha. The largest T i have is about 6.5" and its a honduran curly-hair hehe.

After giving it much thought, i think i'm not ready for loriculus yet.. i need to make visualizations on how reduce poop trajectories first lol.. but i really love them, i must have them before this year ends :dancing:

Poop trajectories!! I love it, but that's exactly what you are dealing with. That, and providing a healthy diet, are the reasons I rehomed them. I can't stress enough how that gloop ends up on all surfaces surrounding their cage. They are a lot of work. Be warned!
