Hello everyone!
I am so excited to get back into the bird world.
When I was 17 I had a cockatoo, Linnie parakeet and had been a foster home for an Indian ringneck and rose breasted cockatoo.
Now I’m 24, I have two kids under 5, own my own home, am a stay at home mom, and am so ready for a feathered family member.
I have an obsession with caiques but from what I’ve read on a bunch of forums from what I can gather they’re not great with small children by any means.
I’d love some opinions on what breed of parrot to join our family. I’d love a medium size bird because that’s certainly what I’m used to and prefer but most importantly i want to make sure I pick a breed that isn’t going to attack my kids. I plan on the bird being mostly mine, and children will not be allowed to touch unless I’m giving them permission and are right there.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome to the forum! It's hard to beat a cockatiel when it comes to laid back, gentle birds.

Welcome to the Avian Avenue! I agree that a cockatiel would be an amazing bird to add to your family (and I think would be great with/for kids too with the proper supervision).

Welcome to the Avenue. :)

I'll also recommend a tiel...they are a solid, calm species that can blend right in with a young family...:)

Thank you!!
I’m a little hesitant with tiels because I love a big personality with birds and I haven’t met to many tiels that do. I’m also used to other birds. I’m not against looking into one! Just a little hesitant.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Don't underestimate cockatiels. They are really fun and engaging birds, when they are allowed to shine.

Awesome video!:roflmao: :fairy2:

But I think listening to ¨if you´re happy and you know it clap your hands¨ over 100 times a day would drive me clinically insane!:excited1:

Since you aren't very keen on cockatiels, maybe a green cheek conure? They're a bit small but definitely, have a big personality and are great family birds. If you are specifically looking for a one-person bird, I would get an IRN but I'm biased.

I have a female tiel. They tend to be much quieter than the males so you don't get the whistling on and off all day (There may be exceptions to this.) My tiel has way more personality than I was expecting. She is adorable and is often a little clown. :)
