Well, with holiday season fast approaching our local grocery stores and Walmarts have the great big bins of nuts. Ray needs the fat and adores the fun of finding them and cracking. Not like it's a challenge or anything but he does like them.
I loaded up on Brazil nuts, almonds, pecans and heazell nuts, mostly Brazil nuts and almonds. They were $3.49 lb. We have 15 lb of nuts right now. I'll be going back - we will store in containers for a while and freeze.
Precautions: Almonds can be tricky because of wet seasons so watch for mold. You may need to hand pick through the bin for the good ones rather than using the big scoop they keep in there. Also when freezing, thaw and feed immediately - don't leave them out for several days after thawing. Nuts get condensation after being frozen so can mold quicker than when they were originally dry.
