These are my top 3 choices for birds. Could someone help me compare/contrast them?

So basically the linnie is like a cross between the lovebird (looks) and budgie (size and speech abilities) and they are a whole lot quieter, so I think I'll stick with linnies though they are pretty expensive. ;)

But then again linnies go through a difficult adolescence stage at around 8 months/1 year and they can get aggressive and hand-shy as well.

Parrotlets are also too expensive for my budget of around $500 (US) when you add the cost of the cage and other supplies (and a vet visit).

Most parrots have potential to get aggressive. Even within species. Don´t rule out one species because you hear they can be aggressive or you will be left with finches.
Even budgies can get nippy.

I have 6 birds, all agapornis, all roseicollis - they are all so different. From one end of the spectrum to the other.
Jaime, never bites or fluffs up (in an aggressive way) ever, then Aldora, she´ll try to kill you just for looking at her if you are not part of the family.
Of six I only have one cuddly bird.
Of six, I handfed 5.

Each bird is unique.

What are your thoughts on cockatiels? I hear they are a great family bird if socialised well - something important for you.

I'll keep that advice in mind. Parrotlets are quite cute though lol

I don't think my home could accommodate a cockatiel's cage. Thanks for the suggestion though!

What do you mean?
There is only a few inches different in minimum cage sizes between all of the birds mentioned in this thread.

What really? I never knew that. Maybe I should do some research on cocktatiels.

I looked into parrotlets too because I'm drawn to small birds, but many people say they are a lot like Amazons and they can get quite aggressive at times especially when not handled enough. That leads me to another question: how much attention do parrotlets need?
I've yet to meet any type of parrot that doesn't have at least a day or a few under its belt where it's aggressive or just having a bad day. If you find that type of parrot let me know.:lol:

Truth is all parrots are capable of aggression, and all are capable of the most beautiful bond you could ask for. It's all about what you put into it.
The more, the better and loving the bond regardless of bird. My blue front amazon was classified by many staff from avian store as the b***h from he11...I didn't see her that way, she was a rescue. And one mean bird.
I broke her, but now we have a very tight bond.
Many people that knew how she was still won't get 10 feet from her. Me ,she sits snuggled against my face. It's all about how much love, patience, understanding and work you put into it.
