Not sure of the right place to post this.

i have a male dark green linnie (Iggy) and turquoise female (Tanzy), they laid 3 eggs. 2 looked viable, 1 hatched, the other viable egg disappeared and third non viable.

this is Yoshi

obviously a lutino.

my question is - is this likely from these parents? Do they both have ino gene and that is how she is lutino. Or is it unlikely to happen and Iggy is not the dad, I did have my doubts due to the pattern on his wings I thought he may have been female, although it is difficult to tell. However, he was and still is super vigilant over mum and baby so assuming he is dad.

the calculator is used to used is no longer available and the only other one I can find doesn’t list green as a choice of parent.

any ideas?

Hello! Lutino is sex-linked recessive, which means males need two lutino genes for it to show up while females only need one. In this case, the father must be split lutino, and the baby must be female!

If you previously used gencalc, it's still up but the home page link you see on Google is not. If you Google "Indian ringneck gene calculator" you should be able to get to the site and navigate back to the home page using the little button on the bottom

Thanks
yes that is the one I use but it doesn’t give me the option to put male as green.

so I have guessed and it does show 25% chance of female lutino. Good to know he is dad.

In cases where the bird is just a regular green, you don't have to fill in any dots - it will know the bird doesn't have any mutations based on that.
Also, since the father is dark green (SF dark factor) make sure to select the SF circle next to "dark" instead. Your input for this pair would look like this (don't worry about the T1 dot, that fills in automatically when the bird is split turquoise and has dark factor).

No worries, it's pretty confusing at first! Practice makes perfect. If you have questions in the future, feel free to reply here.

His behaviour proves he believes he is the Dad, which he could well be if he is split Ino.
But any other male bird you have who is split Ino could also have had a "daliance" with the hen.
Seperating them and breeding them again - if you get another Ino - is the only true proof.

I put the linnies back into the aviary but put a partition so dad wouldn’t be aggressive to others. I had to originally move these to a large cage indoors as dad was pulling tails of others. Anyway, I left the nest box in to give Yoshi a roost to got to, she took 2 weeks longer to fledge. Now mum has laid again. She has just laid her second egg. I certainly wasn’t planning on this. i thought about removing the box and eggs but thought she would lay anyway if she’s been mated with. I’ll have to wait and see.
