Actually Crazy Mary is doing pretty good. She is back in the pasture with her mates. The farrier comes once month and checks her hooves, trims when necessary, tighten shoes. She is still shoed and most likely will be for next 18 months to 2years.
I don't have much for pictures, I can ask uncle to email some current ones. I haven't been up there since I fell the end of Oct 2019. That farm ice city in winter, and I'm still using cane 85% of the time. I really don't want to fall again.
Uncle is so busy this time of preparing for lambing season, setting up lambing jugs (bonding/ claiming pens), make sure that he has enough bedding to keep the jugs dry and clean, powdered colostrum and feeding formula for the lambs. Its 2 hour drive down to get me. I can't take my bird up there, too many predators in the house. 2 hour drive home. He doesn't have the time right now.

She's glad to be back with Black Jack and Shadow the wonder horse. Shadow is my other uncle's horse that has to be in a pasture with his own kind. If pastured alone he can clear a five wire fence. STINKER!!! :):cool: ..
He is sneaky as all get out too. Once out of the fence in the brush or trees he basically disappears in the shadows, hence the name.
Black Jack is a massive now gelded stallion. He can be sweetheart one second and in NY second bite you in the tush until you scream. He was gelded several years ago and is being reasonably good. He can be as stubborn as the day is long. Several years ago our farm flooded bad I rode Crazy Mary over to higher pasture first, water was cold coming back in muck boots. Tacked up Shadow and had lunge line to Black Jack.. I stayed to the high side with those two. I rode Shadow who was good boy but the water freaked Black Jack out. He was trying get ahead of us. He wouldn't stay behind Shadow and for a time he was trying to tow Shadow and me like water skiers. I got them both to higher ground. But I was stuck at my other uncle's place until the water receded some. Walking back the water was over my boots to my knees. A day later it all froze up and stayed way for a month.

Well today has not been good. Crazy Mary has been in the barn most of the winter, hooves have not been good with shoes or without shoes. She developed another crack and ended up being shoed and stall rest. Dr Pete came out with Dr Paula mid February, they did crap load of x rays and had uncle walk Mary in round pen deeply sanded. They put 360° video camera in the center of the round pen at hoof level, so they could watch her walking, trotting and canter. They sent this to equine specialist.
Poor Mary was pigeon toed and x rays show some really bad bone structure problems. I was given several options to think about what I wanted for her.
1. Let her live her life to the best of her abilities. With whatever handicaps and treat as needed.
2. Keep her forever in a stall and round pen.
3. Relinquish her to the rescue, where most likely they would out her down anyway.
4. Put her down
Option 1 was the best as far as I was concerned.
Option 2 she would have hated every second of it and might have hated me for it.
Options 3 & 4, I hated with every fiber of my being.
God took the decision into his hands at 5:30 this morning. Uncle heard her raising a ruckus on Wi-Fi cam. He went out to see what was wrong. She was acting like she was in pain, pawing the ground, nervous tick like tossing her head side to side hard. He knows her well. He gave small dose of meticam in her rump, fed her and went to call the vet. She went down while he was calling Dr Paula. Vet was on her way, but this time she was hurt too bad. She broke her right fore right above what we call the elbow. There is no feasible way to fix that. She was put down at 6 am.
Rest in Peace, Crazy Mary, know that you were loved by both uncle and me. BlackJack and Shadow are going to miss you greatly. Good bye sweet girl.

I am so sorry to hear about Crazy Mary. I've lost many horses over the years and it never gets any easier. Even the contrary ones affected me - they are still one of God's creatures entrusted to my care.
