Kuka my B&G, Sad :(

We lost our Kuka our Blue & Gold Macaws who just turned 28 years old on Sept. 22nd. She had suddenly went down hill in the last couple of weeks prior and was loosing weight and there was something up with her right wing. Yesterday on Sept 30th, we took her to an avian vet. They sedated her to take an x-ray of her wing. It had a fracture on one of the bones. They were going to wrap her wing against her body I guess. We were hanging around town for 3 hours for them to do things, like blood tests and such but about an hour into our wait the vet called and said she was in the incubator, then vet said 10 minutes later she was unresponsive and that she passed away.

They were going to charge us like $1,012 for everything to be done on her but because she died, they credited us back on the $500 deposit when we first left her there.

We are so upset. We miss her so much.

Thank you Shez, I am now birdless. She was my big baby and I had her since she was 2 weeks old, I hand fed her. She was a sick baby bird for her first 6-7 months of life but once she got past that part, she's always seemed pretty healthy over all except she has been plucking her chest and leg feathers for the last ten year.

She was not big on veggie stuff and recently I had ordered from Danita on the Avian Organics items, and she would not eat it on how it is intended to be prepared so it ends up that I was grinding it up along with some Roudybush Pellets in a coffee grinder to make a formula to supplement her because she was not eating well enough on her own in her last few days. Getting vet appointments are hard to get. I think too much time went by for her. Emergency vets are not much better and any of them are way to far from us.

By the way, I have no idea how her wing fractured due to my knowledge she hasn't fallen but who knows it it could have been through the night and she got her wing in a weird position through the cage bars.

Oh Jan no. I'm so sorry and I have tears for you. How very sad to lose her this way.

They are just so fragile and we can only do so much to protect them. I'm overly attached to the macaws here and I'm so sorry.
