Last night was number 5. I made an appointment fir a complete check up on Friday at 2:20. If I put the fake eggs in now I'm wondering how hard it will be to get her off them.

You are not going to know until you know. ;)

A one time depo shot knocked Cha out of cycle. Of course I had concern for her health which made all of that decision. If this were Kailua I would put the dummy eggs in and ride it as long as the eggs looked good and she was eating well. But... I'm used to this.

She doesn't have to sit on them, they are just there.

There were times I thought I would have to towel Sakie off her nest of balls. She sat pretty tight when nesting. She did finally learn that "eggs" was not an excuse to not come out and work for an hour. The week she was laying them I was easy on her, I made her come on stage but she didn't work. She is pretty bad though, sits tight enough to not eat or poop so I have to be tough on her. Cha was that way too.

Rosie sat but always wanted out. She would eat fine, poop fine but felt obligated to sit on the things. Nikki would lay eggs from a top perch so they would splatter 4 feet in every direction. If I gave her dummies she treated them like step children. Never wanted anything to do with them. She sat on beads and small balls but never an egg. They are all so different. It's whatever works the best for Koko to get through it.
Rosie would get off the nest a few days after they would normally hatch. I had to pry the dummies out from under Sakie's butt to get her off the nest.

I think koko's previous home had a hard time getting her to come eat or poop. Her eyes look tired if that makes sense to you.

If it makes sense to you and she has a history talk to the doctor about doing a depo shot. It's a one time shot and it doesn't work for all birds but if it does work for her she's done for the year. If she is like Cha she is done for many years. ;)

I never had any problems with Jasper laying eggs, but the one she did have darn near killed her and she never recovered completely from that experience until the day she died. I had always been very frightened of her laying an egg because of all of the serious illnesses she had. Dr. gave her a depoverin implant right after that egg was removed and she never had another - but then she died about 1 1/2 years after having it.

This implant, known as Suprelorin®, does take 4 to 6 weeks to reach its maximum effect, but on the plus side its ability to suppress adrenal-associated hormones can last anywhere from 8 – 20 months with one implant treatment.
