Crazy couple of days. Koko got the implant Leuprolide. Her calcium level is very high 16. All other bloodwork was good. We go back in a month to recheck calcium.

Koko laid her 6th egg about twenty minutes ago. Any advice on getting ahold of my vet tomorrow or waiting for the implant to hopefully kick in. I've never had this with a parrot before. A lot of the information is different depending on meds ect.

Well once the egg is formed the implant won't stop it from coming out. :D
The implant should kick in for the next one. Fingers crossed anyway.

6 is what Cha hit when I took her in for her shot. Hang in there Carol.
While we don't like it egg laying is normal. ;)

Cha had normal bloodwork. Everything within range except for her CK which we can never get down.

My goodness, you are going to have to set up a stand and start selling eggs. She really turned the switch on.

@Hankmacaw funny you should say that! I had a man at the vets come up to me while I was waiting and educate me on Macaws. I'm so glad he told me that parrots can't hear and they never stop growing! He was very loud and obnoxious and smelled like alcohol so I kept my big mouth shut. I'm pretty sure I could have sold him all six :)

Oh no, Koko! Seven is almost two whole normal clutches for a macaw if I'm understanding correctly what Macawnutz and Hankmacaw were saying :(

I hope your vet can sort this out quickly!

You are getting up there.

Time to rearrange that cage and try to knock her out of routine. Can you roll her outside for part of the day or something?
She is laying but not nesting. Maybe give her some really messy toys like paper rolls?

Let us know what the vet says.

I just talked to the doctor. She said Koko probably had egg #7 in her track already and could lay one more..?? I have been looking up everything I can on it but all the information I find has to do with how many eggs they usually lay. The doctor said to change her house up, which we already did and give her things to rip up. I wish I could take her outside but we have crop dusters doing two fields next to us.

I have heard of some BG's really doing some serious laying. If this gets much worse Carol I will get the right people here to give their experience and advice.

@Big Blues comes on every once in a while. I believe she has a serious layer or two.
@Annamacaw does not visit often but I can get her here if we need her. She has a BG that ended up having a hysterotomy.

Also I found another avian vet 9 hours away if I feel I need a second opinion, I've never been there and have always trusted our vet but will do what it takes.

How is Miss Koko doing today? Did you find any nice, old phone books for her to destroy? :)

I hope she stops at 7!

I’m certainly not suggesting to do it but I have read about lighting being left on for 48 hrs to reset them when they’re laying and nothing has stopped them.
Has anyone else heard or read about using this method to reset when all else fails? @Macawnutz?
