Who's there?
Chery and I have a new to me old senegal just got re-homed yesterday.

This place is HUGE. I'm a scared as the new bird is.

Where do I go to ask, learn about Senegals
What to do when they first get home
I know the core work of vet, pellets, seed, no teflon, no dogs that hunt and some toys.

So, because I want to find some seniee familys, please tell me where to perch and see what to do,

thank you)

Welcome to you and your new old bird!

You've got the basics right. Remember that birds need fresh food too - sweet potato, peas, broccoli, green beans, radish, cabbage, spinach, carrot, berries and pomegranate are good. Some foods, like onion, garlic, avocado and chocolate are toxic. You're absolutely right that dogs with a strong prey drive should be kept apart from birds, but I would extend this to all dogs. Sometimes a dog - even a very gentle dog with little hunting instinct - will just catch sight of a bird's movement and react before you know what's happening. It rarely ends well for the bird.

2. I call him Ziggy yes, after Bob Marley's son:)
3. Just realized, do I have to turn off the tv when I put my bird to sleep?

Yeah I'd definitely recommend it. If its a pain to do so you could look into getting a sleeping cage or move his current cage to a quieter place. And having a playstand in its place so he can still be social :)

Hi Cheryl!

:welcomesign: To AA!

Buddy likes the noise of the tv. If he's going to be on his own @ night you may want to see how he does in the quiet. If he's making noise a bit before settling for the night, you've got a good combo. Buddy doesn't like it since my Dad passed on & I inherited him. I do cover his cage tho, so the lights don't bother him.

I know you're probably taking a ton of info in right now, I suggest to spend a little money & make a sprouting area, for food. I would've saved $ on fresh veggies & fruits by buying about 1/2 the amount & feeding more seed sprouts. IT's really easy, & kinda fun! One of the best foods you can give him/her.

There's a bunch of reading in the green link areas in the beginning of this forum area.
