Hi Everyone, first time poster here!

I have a cute female budgie named Kaeya, she’s a solo bird because either my mom or I am always home - so she’s never really alone.

She has her own room connected to the living room, kitchen, and dining room; so she hears us for the majority of the day, sees us cook, and listens to us eat breakfast/dinner.

One thing we’ve noticed though is that she never wants to leave this room. Only three times in the last year has she decided to leave her room and fly into the living room. We mark this to her being in puberty and wanting to stay in her safe space; but I’d also like to gather other opinions. Even when we clean her cage, she’d rather perch on the pictures in her room than go out of it.

Q: Why does my budgie not want to leave her room to hangout with us or be closer to the action?

It sounds like thats just her space she is comfortable in. Mine are the same way even though they have access to the whole house they never stray too far from their cage. Once they are out of line of sight of the cage they immediatly fly back.

Mine are very much homebodies as well. Even when they have fly time outside the cage, they usually just fly around a lap of the room or two, and return to the cage without landing on anything else in the living room. They just love their cage! They get on top for the foraging bowl, and that's about it, oh, and their "swimming pool" is attached to the top front of their cage - they love that.

They love their pool! Wish it was bigger, I've thought of getting one to sit on the top of the cage, but wonder how long it would take them to get used to it! ;)

Oh that is cool. I got one of those budgie baths that attach to one of the doors on the cage, but my birds would never go in there. I think it just looked scary to them.
Now, I will fill a glass baking dish with water and set it on top of their cage. They love it!

Is she tame? Do you work with her? Will she perch on your finger and let you walk her out of the room?

Thank you all, I’m glad to hear that my birdie being a homebody isn’t unusual/worrying!

She’s definitely not 100% tamed, she does perch when I have millet and I’m continuing to train her to perch more. She‘s okay with me walking around the cage with her, but as soon as I start heading for the door, she’s like: “Imma head out.“

I think she’s just very independent. Last week she decided to leave her room and fly into the dining room and hangout there for the day. First time in 2-3 months she’s done that.

Sorry for the late report!
