Hi,

I've just bought a 4-6 week old albino (Blondie) & I've been told that this bird could possibly be a female, as it has brownish area around nostrils. The other female(Yella) I have had for nearly 3 months (4 months old now) & was told 100% guaranteed she is a female, but today when the albino arrived, Yella has suddenly gone from Brown around the nostrils to blue, indicating that she is now a 'he' instead.
Can anyone with experience of both, tell me if a sex can change? Do these colours around the nostrils indicate sex or not?

Thanks in advance,

Ty

Their ceres can change colour based on hormones, but I've never heard of them changing sex as some animals do. If you post pictures some of the people here can identify their genders, no matter their current hormone levels.

They can’t change sex as far as I’m aware but they’re quite commonly incorrectly labelled as a particular sex then when breeding season, age or conditions hit people get a surprise.

Post facial photos of both and we'll sort this out. It is possible for a female's cere to change back to the baby blue when the hormones drop out of season. It's not common but it does happen.
