Our "Mayor of the Avenue" award is presented to a member who exhibits the qualities that distinguish them to be an upstanding credit to the Avenue, a loving, informed, conscientious and caring bird parront and an all around good neighbor.

I am happy to announce that Birdbabe is June's Mayor of the Month.
I enjoyed reading your interview, and am sure that everyone else will as well!

1. What kind of birds do you have (age, species and names)?

13 tiels, aged from1 year to 15 years..names..Sky, Fallon, Soaren, Peanut, Casey, Thailog, Lorcan, Baby Hawk, Buddy, Lemondrop, Kiwi, Cainan, and Kodi
1 IRN named, Merlin, age, unknown
1 pigeon, named SnowPea. AKA Marshmallow, age 2 years
3 doves, named Ucella, Wren, and Chloe ages between 1 and 12.
1 lovebird, named , Squeak, age, unknown
3 chickens for now, named Cicero, Tony and Kate, aged 2 months

2. What got you interested in birds?

Ever since I was a little girl, I drug home baby birds and any injured or baby animal I found. Some made it, some didn't. My Mom is a SAINT! LOL!
Then in my later years, I got a degree in animal medicine, specializing in Avian health care. Started volunteering at Liberty Wildlife in Arizona, been hooked ever since.

3. What have your birds brought to your life?

A lot! They drive me nuts, make me laugh, taught me patience, taught me how smart and individualized each one really is. Its amazing how they all have theyre own personalities and quirks..

4. What have you learned from sharing your life with your birds?

Forget ever having a clean house again!!

5. What's one birdie memory that will stay with you forever?

My first release of a rehabilitated barn owl! I brought her home from the rescue and put her in the bathroom till it was almost dusk,,,hubby didn't know and when he went into the bathroom,,,she screamed at him! he came running out,,saying "Babe, theres something in the bathroom! : I told him, its an owl,,,he said "what the is an owl doing in the bathroom?" I said " were releasing her tonight,,,so we did, and it was a special place I picked out,,,to watch her fly off was the most amazing and heartwarming thing.

6. Where is your birds main living area?

They have a big 25 by 16 foot birdroom in the house...hubby wanted a pool table in there...heehee

7. Did you change things in your home to accommodate your birds and if so what kinds of things did you change?

Didn't really change much,,,no houseplants ,learned that the hard way...,but, I did change the way I clean, using only natural products, no more candles, no more nail polish,,,only dye my hair,,yes I need too! after everyone is safely put away for the night, and I hide in the furthest back area, and use the furthest back bathroom to clean up.

8. Are you involved in any kind of bird related group or activities?

Volunteer rescue, rescue ER transport and occasional vet tech at Liberty Wildlife.

9. What is the one luxury item you would love to have for your bird(s)?

A fabulous room with cubbies to set in, a concrete floor with a floor drain, inside water hose fixture, sky lights!

10. Is there any bird that you dream of owning and if so why?

A bald Eagle! theyre awesome! but,,,against the law...

11. Describe a typical day with you at home with your birds.

First things first,,,clean up after the all day party, then clean water, fresh food, cuddles, and play time. Theyre so glad to see me when I get home from work, as I am them.

12. What have you learned about owning birds that you would like to share?

Have a bird emergency fund! you never know what your going to encounter!! Let them be birds, don't cage them all the time, after all, you are therye flock mate too, and they look to you for fun, comfort, a safe place to snuggle, and greive..if need be .Dont brush them off coz your busy,,,you took them into your home and heart,,,theyre your responsibility,

13. If you knew then what you know now about birds, what would you do differently?

I love my girls,,,but, girls have so many more problems and health issues than boys,,,just being honest. If I had to do it all over again,,,no girls!

14. What other hobbies do you have?

Art, jewelry making ,photography, cooking, anything artsy fartsy and creative!

15. Anything else you would like to share?

Oh dear,,,no Im tired of typing, and I stink at it,,,one finger tyoer here,,,heehee

I really enjoyed reading this :)

I didn't know you have a degree in animal medicine! I find that inspiring! I often regret becoming a nurse and not doing something with animals. Sometimes I imagine myself going back to school :meh:

......and you want a bald eagle :jawdrop1:... :scared4: Brave woman!
