So today was Jade's first vet visit.

They got her inside and examined her. They took a sample for her DNA test and also did a fecal smear and gram stain (which came back fine).

The vet said she seems very sweet, and healthy, except for one thing....

Jade has a mild heart arrhythmia.

The vet said it might be just nothing, since it was with the breathing sometimes and sometimes it's not there, so it might be something she grows out of.

So she's putting Jade on a heart vitamin mix, 0.03ml every other day. She also wants us to come back in 2 months, to see how her heart is doing. She also wants me to offer senior nutriberries and walnuts for the Omega 3 fatty acids.

I'm at a loss for words. I can't believe this is happening to her, she's so young. I feel like I'm going to scream.

I have to notify the shop we got her from- technically I could take her back but there's not a chance in hell that she's going back there.

Anyone have any words of wisdom? @Hankmacaw , I know you're well-versed in heart stuff.

Good thoughts for the baby, please.

My thinking is that this just a small bump in the road, and you two will have many years of adventure to look forward to.

I she is quite young and like the Dr. says she may grow out of it. Many children have heart murmurs or other issue and grow out of them. Many people live their entire lives and have a heart defect that they never know about. In other words don't worry until you have something to worry about.

I bet she will be just fine, so try not to worry too much, but I can understand your feelings of...really, you’ve got to be kidding!

Here is how humans deal with arrhythmia - Not all that different with birds. I do want to mention that low blood calcium is one of the main causes in birds. Well you can ignore a few of these.

How do you fix a heart arrhythmia?
These lifestyle changes may include:
  1. Eat heart-healthy foods. ...
  2. Exercise regularly. ...
  3. Quit smoking. ...
  4. Maintain a healthy weight. ...
  5. Keep blood pressure and cholesterol levels under control. ...
  6. Drink alcohol in moderation. ...
  7. Maintain follow-up care.

It'd be quite a shock to catch Jade smoking- or sneaking out to the liquor store!

I forgot to mention- Jade weighed in at 58 grams, I assume she'll probably get a bit bigger as she gets older? She's almost 4 months old currently.

Aaaaw....no screaming just yet... or ever. Let's hope her little ticker was just doing the bumpity bump because she was nervous! Lots of changes in the past few days!

Tonight I gave her lots of scritches. She went into full fluffenchops. It took all my willpower to not start sobbing. I'm absolutely terrified for her. I love her so much and I can't imagine what I would do if something happened to her.

Today Jade got an almond- the vet said they'd be good for her but might be too hard, Jade seemed to have no issue though.

She also tried applesauce! It's just plain unsweetened, the only ingredient is apples. Jade seems to love it!
