They are beautiful!! I love chickens too. When I was a kid I always begged my parents for a pet rooster. They thought I was nuts. :wacky: :hehe:

Don't love chickens. Have never forgiven them for pooping on my saddle and digging in my flower beds.

No! Not so much work, if it's a small flock...I have six :joyful:
They are in an enclosed run (more than 120 sq ft for 6, sooo predator proof) with good ventilation and the coop floor is a pretty copper slate linoleum for easy cleaning. The "girls" get treats from my garden in the summer, but it is at my discretion, not a self-serve buffet.
They are excellent landscapers...I make a temporary pen with tall garden stakes and chicken wire and let them clear the area at the base of trees where I want to plant flower bulbs. They have turned my garden bed and the compost is "cooking" for this coming Spring.
They are funny, require very little effort, time or cost (lol, well, after the initial outlay if you are doing a top notch coop and run). Oh! And they are fantastic garbage disposals...little omnivores that turn kitchen leftovers and discards into eggs and compost

Uh-oh, you're sunk! Adorable, tiny little peepers with down that feels like kitten fur. To me it always sounds like the babies are speaking Manderin, lovely soft Manderin Chineese.
Got my 6 as two day olds

Our neighbor has two buff orpingtons and two red stars (I believe that's the breed) and we babysit them from time to time :) Wonderful creatures. They always give us eggs as a reward for treats (always healthy ones of course).
