Hi, I Recently Got A Cockatiel Named Luna, Something Is Up With It’s Feathers, Is It Normal?

PS Is It A Boy Or A Girl?

Clipped flight feathers, missing tail feathers, including some damage. These will grow out when he/she molts!

Do you know how old your new baby is?

Baby tiels can be very clumsy...and many damage their feathers just getting around in their cage. At 2-3 months - still too young to determine if you have a boy or girl by looking at the feather patterns. Welcome! And Luna is very cute!

I would say possibly male but time would tell for sure... or based on behavior.

As for the wings... again, probably due to being clipped. Being clipped is *probably* not helping those tail feathers, either...

its always at it lol, whenever that door is open she does it for hours on end, XD

If she does it for hours on end, maybe she needs some new/different toys? She might also like some natural wood perches? Mine love them because they can strip the bark.

I think she looks okay, just general damaged feathers from being young with clipped wings. I guess for some reason she likes playing with the door. Making sure you have a variety of toys for her in a large enough cage is a good idea.

If she starts to pick the paint off (which is possible) you will need to distract her. Possibly put a toy there now to prevent that from happening

I don't have any cocktails but I would think that your bird has been recently clipped. Nothing to worry about, the feathers should grow back. Whats weird is that it looks like one wing is clipped and the other isn't. I don't know why the previous owner didn't bother to do the job right. Anyway, good luck with your new bird!

Possibly a massive bonus for you that Luna is not interested in the mirror......they often cause many problems for our birds. Most of us here choose not to have them as so many birds sadly become obsessed with mirrors.

i gave luna a shallow bowl of warm water today and it jumped right in with excitement and was completely soaked in the process (from head to toe, Luna looks cold), is this normal?
