Is my bird actually eating pellets?

I recently got a small bag of Top's pellets to try and convert my budgie into them. (His diet is mainly seeds, but he gets chop every day and loves that). The pellets are a little big for him, and I got the smallest size. They are, however, really easy to crunch up. So that's what he does. Crunch them up. And I have no idea if he's actually eating them or not. He will take them right out of my fingers when I offer them to him, and he really seems to like them, or at least likes mashing them to a dust.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

Welcome to AA!

Only you can actually answer this question..
Compared to when eating seeds, does he do similar motions? Did you notice him swallow?
Did his poop change in any way?

You could put a tablespoon full in a bowl, weigh it, offer it to your bird, when he's done, weigh the bowl again.

Edit: you will need an accurate digital scale

Weigh his bowl before you feed him and at the end of the day :)

You could crush one pellet with your fingers and put it on you hand. Then let your bird eat it from your hand. If the small particles of pellets disappeared, then your bird ate it then.

You likely will just have to closely watch.... my bird does not drop all the crumbs back into the bowl, most of them go on the floor of the cage.

I feel if he's crunching them then he probably is eating some of them. The only way to know for sure is by watching or weighing, or by giving a dozen at a time. He'll likely be eating some of the dust he's making in the dish as well, my budgies do.
