I have been looking for a conure for over a month now with no success due to patchy/sketchy breeders. I live in Australia and I’m pretty sure breeding season is ending which is super annoying. While looking on gumtree for conures, I found mr squiggles and I’m in LOVE
He (?) is on the perfect diet, is the perfect type of conure to suit me, and has been socialised VERY well by his highly reviewed owner who has even taken him to the grocery store. The on,y thing is… he's a 2 day drive away from my town :(
my parents are saying its too mucn of a drive blah blah blah but i would just like some advice. At the moment he is 9 weeks which in my opinion is too young but in a bit over a month away my dad is actually going to somewhere and hour away from where mr squiggles is to get my mums new car and drive it back (a 2 day trip) - we dont actually know the exact date of when it is coming which is another problem - btw my dad grew up with a few birds so he knows a bit about them
my mum and dad say it is too long but i really hope its not
advice?
also if ur mr squiggles mum hello :)

Mr. Squiggles is so cute! I know that I would take the drive but it is really up you your parents. Maybe you can talk to the breeder and ask if you can meet somewhere even a little bit closer? I know that all the GCCs I’ve met have been super nice and such characters (but they do bite hard when they don’t get their way)

He is lovely
What are your plans for a cage ? You need to consider you will also need to buy toys and food and a vet check is a good idea for a new bird.

We already have a fairly big cage probably the size of like 3 rulers? And maybe 1 and half / two wide? (I don’t know dimensions)
I use poinseana (idk how to spell it) tree branches after scrubbing them with detergent and i use coop cups and like maybe a bit below 10 toys?

Also I’ve previously used for a cockatiel like a clear plastic box for food a coop cup for veggies and one of those water things (like a hamster one but just an opening not a licky thing) but I think the water thing will be too narrow for the conures beaks (I obviously won’t use the same one but still) I think I’ve seen wider ones and I will probably get another coop cup for bathing / sleeping (I’ve heard they like to sleep like that) along with a bowl for bathing depending on what he likes

The rulers should have measurements on them. If the rulers are standard 12"/30cm rulers, your cage is 36x18 inches - a decent size. However, if the rulers are 6"/15cm rulers, then your cage is only 18x9 inches and far too small for any species of bird, including finches.

Do you mean poinsettia? There is mixed information about whether these are toxic or not to birds. Most sources agree that they are mildly toxic to humans, cats and dogs, but disagree about whether they are toxic to birds. There are plenty of safer choices so I wouldn't give my birds access to poinsettia

Mr. Squiggles is priceless, being alive, so definitely worth it. ;)

That doesn’t necessarily mean getting him is feasible. I hope the shipping option pans out!
