Is 1inch bar spacing too wide?

I'm looking at options for the caigues and there exists the following:

-5mm thick, 1inch spacing
-3mm thick, 1/2 inch spacing

Which is better? I called a&e cages and the lady said that the website is out of date and their 1/2 in wide bars are actually 5mm thick.

Those who own caiques: will they bend 3mm thick bars? Can they escape (or get stuck on) 1inch wide bars?

Thanks!

Smaller is always better. If a bird can "squeeze" it's head between the bars it's a death trap. A bird with a 1 inch head can "squeeze" its head between 3/4" bars.

My budgies can "fly" through 1.5 inch spaced bars without hardly stopping. :D

Thank you for this!! Exactly what I wanted to know. I'm thinking of going with the 1/2 inch spacing now. My remaining concern is that the cage bars may be thin enough for them to bend at 3 mm. Still on the research wagon...

Here is the cage:

Thank you! I'm definitely going with the 1/2inch ones. I even called avian emporium and they confirmed their cages are 5mm thick bars so no reason not to. The pet playpen panels are 3mm so I'm hesitant to use those. It's so difficult to find big cages that are just right for a caique. Bigger cages are always made for the bigger birds and large small cages aren't secure enough for caique beaks. :)

You may be able to find a few larger cages with 5/8" bar spacing which would still be considered safe :)

I'd be concerned 1 inch would not be good for all caqs. Some of them just don't have big heads. Still I never had one & the only one I saw did not look that big. Anyway depends on the bird & I guess best to get info from caq people which I am not.

I went with 1/2 inch for my black headed caique as he is on the smaller size. I put him in one of my 3/4 inch cages and seemed like a good chance he could get his head thru the bars. Not worth the risk for me.
