Introduction help

Hello, so im a fairly new bird owner. i adopted a love bird from a shelter. shes very fearful of people cause she was never interacted with. shes starting to warm up to me a little bit. but i have been thinking about getting another love bird as a companion. but before i do so i want to ask others with experience if its a good idea.

im thinking about getting one as a baby rather than adopting, so i dont risk getting another traumatized bird. my hope is having one comfortable with humans will help my current bird. and if not at lest she would have a friend.

is this a good idea? how should i go about it?

Hey congratulations on your new bird
Only get a new lovebird if you want one not for your lovebird you have now you need a separate cage you can’t just put another bird in with the old one they may fight
You will need to quarantine for 30days then slowly introduce them cages in same room so they can hear each other etc
I’ve found lovebirds to be very picky birds when it comes to picking a partner

as for your new bird give them time it’s a new environment sit and talk down cage have a bowl or platform near front you can just pop a treat into so your lovebird knows you bring good things it just takes time just because your lovebird not tame now doesn’t mean it will always be like that with love and patience
You will get there good luck

I second the above, only get a second bird if you want one because there are no guarantees they will bond or even like each other.

I got a second bird for my first, and they never bonded. It was only the 6th bird that my first bird bonded to

Lovebirds must be housed, one bird per cage, or one bonded pair per cage. Bonded meaning they are preening each other, feeing each other, flying together, spending most of the day near each other, sleeping side by side.

Do you have the blue crowned conure in your profile pic or it is just a a pic off the internet? I'm wondering if the lovebird is your only bird in your house?

So many people come on here with new birds asking what they should and shouldn't do that I thought I would put a short list together of things that owners of new birds could do to build a good relationship with their bird. These things can be done with all new rehomes, rescues or baby birds...

I do also have the conure, i had him a bit longer than my lovebird. i have just the 2. However i do have a good bond with the conure, so im not so worried with him. And i do appreciate your input, it will help me a lot with my decision making.

i appreciate the input! i was just getting a bit worried cause its taking her longer than my conure did. but i will keep trying. Thank you !

I have lovebirds and conures I do think lovebirds do take longer as they have so much energy and I would say are more jumpy than conures
