Installing new furnace

I'm having problems with my old furnace and am looking to replace it sometime soon. The tech said the furnace, once installed, has to be run about 30 minutes to burn off the oil. I understand this... but am wondering the best way to manage it.

Obvious, best to wait until it's warmer. Would opening all the windows and put up some fans be enough? Or would I need to get the birds out of the house? I have 7 birds - 4 cockatoos, a moustache parakeet, a finch and a sparrow. I could put them all in carriers and take them outside if it's warm, but even this is a major undertaking.

Has anyone had experience doing this and do you have suggestions? Thank. you!

When we installed a new furnace 3 years ago, i took merlin to a hotel overnight. My husband stayed home and ran the furnace and he said it was bad.

Is there anyway you can limp thru until warmer weather?

That is my plan. But removing 4 large cockatoos and 3 smaller birds is still a major endeavor. I have the carriers so could manage putting them on the deck for an hour or so. But they still have to be watched carefully as they can chew thru carrier.

We smelled it for weeks after. I had all ventilation taped up in the bird room. It probably didn't make a difference but it felt like I was doing something. Good luck!
