Good morning to everyone ...Tyrion is doing better today as he tried to bite me several times and is now harder to medicate ...I have a question though ... When giving his meds he seems to hold it in his lower beak and then either shakes his head or closes his beak and comes out and dribbles down his chest so I am not to sure how much meds he is actually getting does anyone have a suggestion to help me with this .... His weight is good and staying the same 499 grms I take his weight every morning before giving his meds...his poop is good and no diarrhea ...he is eating well I gave him his seed nut grain mixture soaked in unsweetened apple juice he ate almost all of this last night and he is drinking water well ... Should I be giving some sort of electrolytes in his water maybe ... the vet never mentioned this so I was wondering ... I want this to go well for him of course so any thing you guys can help with Im listening :):):):):)

I give Lola her loxicam on top of minced cooked apple every evening with other soft foods they get for an evening treat. I take two thin slices of apple and cut thin strips and then cut the strips into small bits and microwave for 35-30 seconds covered. With it soft they eat it all and on hers I put the drop of medicine. She has an old injury from a night fright that causes her discomfort. Nothing visible was seen on X-ray yet still she can have discomfort. My favorite apple of choice is honeycrisp. If there's any other food he will eat all of then stick with what he will eat and not pick around. There's no way I would fight Lola to take meds and she's quite happy with what we do... and I get to scritch her head every night because she demands it. Hope this helps!

I always use my thumb and forefinger to hold m's head gently near his ears. I hold it for awhile after the meds to make sure he swallows. Just a little at a time so there's not extra for him to spit out. A little extra helps because unless he's a saint he's going to lose some.

I’m with Becky on this one; I just hold them and wait it out. :cautious:

I'll say it again—the benefits of a tasty medication are absolutely worth it. When I have a very sick bird, I send my medicines to a compounding pharmacy. I really don’t want to struggle with them, and I definitely don’t want any missed doses. I always request peanut butter flavor, and let me tell you, my birds absolutely love it and will even beg for their meds.

Have you tried mixing it with a high-value food? You could try blending it into almond butter or something similar. How about warm mashed sweet potatoes? Anything he would really enjoy licking out of a bowl?

Hey the vet said 2 out of 3 meds are flavored strawberry ...the antibiotic is not flavored but I add a lil bit of apple juice to it and I think he likes it better ...Still having issues with him holding it in his beak but I feel he is getting most of it ...his weight is down again this am to 479 gr ... but he is still eating well and drinking well ..he may have a lil diarrhea yesterday but fed him some melons which he loves so maybe the extra water in the food made for extra watery poops ... he is still spicy and seems happy but getting board with staying in the small cage... after his recheck on wed. Im going to put him in a bigger cage if vet says its ok ...I have a 2.5 ft tall cage Im going to try and give him some easy things to do like shredding paper ...any one have an ideas for stuff for him to play with ... :):):):)

Good Morning everyone ..Tyrion had his 1 week recheck ...all was good they took off the band aid covering his injury and the clot is holding well now we have to watch for drying out and flaking of the clot which might make him itchier ...I have moved him into a middle sized cage so he has more room and made some paper toys for him to play with if he gats bored ...he is still eating well but loosing some more weight he is now 475gm which isnt to bad but worrisome ... I hope with moving him to his new cage he will feel better ... Still some issues with giving the meds but he must be getting some as everything is well no infection ... He is on the antibiotic for another week and is done with the pain meds maybe thats why his weight is down due to being sore when he eats .... please keep him in your thoughts as the next week we will see if he leaves the clot alone ...thank you for all the thoughts and prayers :):):):):)

I'm really glad to hear the good news, and he’s definitely in my thoughts! Beak injuries can be quite challenging due to all the nerves involved, so it's understandable that there will be some soreness and weight loss.
