Indoor aviary

I was given the opportunity to get an indoor aviary. It needs to be deep cleaned and the bedding material removed but it's new after that. It is 6 feet tall and 4 foot length. I have a sun conure and I'm wondering if with the right things inside, can this be a better home for her then her cage. In my head the more room the better but I dont know if to much space is bad. Does anyone have any input on possibley making it her new home or any suggestions on how to make the inside more suitable. Thank you for any help.

Not much airflow in that thing. No bars to climb on either. If i were a bird i dont think id be happy in there.

To me it looks like it's more for reptiles than birds. If I were to use it as an aviary I'd replace all the glass/plexiglass with SS wire, make the door full size, put vinyl or plexiglass on the floor, remove the upper whatever it is area. Add perches, a swing, toys, dishes, etc..

Thank you! I was also just hopeing the size ok. I plan to do alot to it. It won't be an overnight project. Making her home the best thing for her and sometimes she can enjoy is the main priority.

Most of the time that background is made with expanding foam and aquarium sealant to stick the bedding soil to the background and logs (made one for my gargoyle gecko ) I am not sure how bird/parrot safe that would be

plus as @Rebel said I think it’s for a reptile so would need a really good clean deep clean F10 and a lot of alterations

but I think it could be an excellent size for your sun with a lot of work

It use to be for finches at a nursing home and serviced weekly by a company. Thank you for the heads up about the foam and the background. Very helpful!

You could always drill holes into wood for perch in front meant bar through hole with the washers and bolt holding onto back of wood if that makes sense

So how it’s attached to cage but hole in wood and bolt on back of wood

That's a great idea the sides can do that forsure. And I will remove the plexiglass and add bars for her. And give her way more ways to get around and add better ventilation. Thanl you all for the good ideas.

I will be totally honest here... I really dislike this thing for any bird but a parrot in particular- it can never be properly sanitized among other downfalls.

Is the wood even bird safe wood (appears to be varnished)- the floor and side panel is not from what I can see and you have a parrot which will chew, the wood also can not be properly sanitized so for me that cupboard thing would be a huge no way for even my budgie. Also, no fresh air or places for the all so important stuff for a bird, nowhere to hang food bowls perches and toys etc. All that stuff up top is def no good for parrots.

The stuff you would need to change out for it to be half suitable for a parrot would make it a super costly but still less than decent cage- I honestly think you are better off buying a proper cage purpose built for parrots that can actually be cleaned properly etc.

If I was offered that cupboard I may consider it for plants but def not for birds.

I wonder if it might be cheaper to wait for a sale & get a regular flight cage.

Would this be substantially more space than your sun has now?

She is in a large cage already. I was just hoping for this to be a fun project for awhile and eventually give her more room and places to explore. It's all meant in good spirt.
