Woke up coughing. Bedroom full of smoke. Smoke detectors going off everywhere in the block (not mine so I'm naturally worried about the other residents).
We've had so much trouble with the girl involved these events are no longer a surprise.
Me and the budgies are fine. I had to ventilate so it's blooming cold in here. We're sealed off now. No smoke but a definite stink in the air. The budgies think it's time to get up. I might just call it and give them breakfast now.

Two engines so I think they may just move her out now.

Yikes!! I’m glad you are OK! What a way to wake up, smh. There’s one person in your building who caused all this mayhem?

What the what?? :shocking: How on Earth is this normal? I'm so sorry you've had to live near this person and I hope this is the last straw.

It's all over. She was escorted in the ambulance by a police officer, the building has been ventilated, paramedics have checked everyone in the building. I have a massive headache and I'm blowing soot put of my nose but everything is fine.
Now it's warmed up and the birds have settled down again I'll try and get a few hours sleep. Going to take a few days to get rid of this stench. I'll catch up on the gossip tomorrow. It's like 03:40.

You responded to the crisis amazingly calmly!
Calmly? I can't sleep lol

No. I'm ex-firces so trained to be calm under pressure. I just think first.

It's something I've learned as normal for her. She's drunk every time I see her. She has drunk men calling in the early hours,if she doesn't answer the buzzer they buzz every other flat. It's a different boyfriend every week. I guess internationally she'd be called a 'party girl'. Translated to Yorkshire she's 'a bit of a slapper'. She's been assaulted in her own flat no less than 5 times in the 3 years I've lived here. She's constantly dropped any charges made against the men. This time the landlord will get involved, there will be a joint letter to the landlord. Yes, hopefully now she'll get the help she needs - but she won't be getting it from any of the residents.

I can't sleep BTW :extremeanger:
This time she has endangered others. The police won't drop that.

Wow! If I was in that situation I'd definitely have a panic attack! You handled that well! Glad the police caught her!
People can be so stupid!

It's good to have a plan in your head and practice it mentally to take care of your charges - I can't emphasise this too much.
My plan is to always be ready to evacuate.
1. Dress suitably for the weather.
2. Get the travel cages ready.
3. Find out what the merry **** is going on.
I suggest everyone makes a plan and goes through it occasionally. It does help. How can you help a panicked bird when you're panicking yourself? The time to go mental is when everyone is safe.

*edit*
Like right now. My head is buzzing with bad thoughts and I'm shaking!

Glad you´re ok. Tired and smelly maybe, but safe and well :)

At 3am you did good posting it on the right website

:(
If she´s in a council flat hopefully they move her out to a rehab centre or something. Though my experience with a drunk neighbour when I was 19 tells me the police might not do much. (We had the police called so many times, they were always turning up to sort out the latest drama).

You must be exhausted and your nerves jangling! I hope that maybe you'll have time to nap this afternoon. And maybe your weather will be a bit warmer over the next couple of days so that you can open up all the windows and air out your place. What a horrible night! I'm so sorry you, the budgies, and everyone in your building had to go through that!

And you're right about an evacuation plan. I need to be better about that. And a bird first aid kit!

Every time we've been disturbed by her antics we've relieved a letter from the council asking if we wanted to raise a complaint and get her evicted. We never took that action before, we collectively decided to give her that one more chance. This time I don't think we'll even get a letter. I've already spoken with the neighbour below her and apparently he made a report to the police about what sounded like fighting in her flat at 22:15 yesterday. You don't need a degree to do the maths on that.
As far as rehab goes they are expensive. The council can try to arrange funding for her but that takes many months and in the meantime, unless the council can prove foul play, they'll have to put her in temporary accommodation.
Right now the CSIs are in there taking a good look. They wouldn't be there unless the police or fire service had seen something or otherwise have information about something.
As it looks right now we may be about to lose the biggest blight on our lives.
And the latest 'gossip' is she was moved into this flat after she burned down her first privately rented flat by dropping a cigarette in her bed while high as a kite. Smoking anywhere in this building is against the law period.
As it is I feel we're all so lucky we live right next door to the combined fire/police/ambulance station.

Always the chance that someone put something through her letterbox if she was fighting with someone- there are some nasty people around. I hope that girl gets help. She sounds like she's in a bit of a mess herself, but it's not right that she puts others at risk.

From my window. The red building behind the trees is combined police and fire stations. The green building to the right is the rear of the ambulance station. Seriously it's that close they could have walked round with their hoses before the pumps got here.

I never noticed any charring around the letterbox, and she wouldn't have been able to get out other than a window fortunately.

Hey Linden, I was just listening to my neighbour screaming ¨basura!¨(rubbish/garbage) top not about 100times, and I thought of your neighbour. Did they move her out in the end?
