Hi everyone!! My name is Christina and I'm new, but happy to be here. Recently, my parrotlet that was 17 and a half years old passed away. It's been hard, but I know he lived a happy and healthy life. My family and I are thinking of getting another bird in the future when I feel ready, but we're still trying to figure out what to get. We want to stick with small/medium sized. Right now I think we've narrowed it down to either a Meyer's or Red-Bellied Parrot. I think we're leaning towards a Meyer's because we love that they're known to be happy around people but also somewhat independent. Red-Bellieds seem awesome as well though. Does anyone have any opinions they can share?

Thanks in advance and I'm excited to be here!

Welcome to the Avian Avenue, Christina! Sorry to hear about your parrotlet, but glad he lived a happy and healthy life. I don't have any particular opinion on those two species, but I'm sure others will chime in to help.

Welcome to the Avenue...sorry about your loss.

From what I've seen about the species you mention, either is a good choice...I have no practical experience with either.

Welcome! I am sorry for your loss. Yes, to a very long and healthy life! I lost my parrotlet 5 years ago he was almost 16.

Meyers are beautiful birds, easy going and I look forward to seeing your new baby!

Sorry to hear about your loss. I’ve recently bonded with a parrotlet and they are amazing little creatures. You may want to check out a qauker parrot also known as a monk parrot they are so easy going and affectionate. Best of luck in the future
