I am going to be a first time bird parent in a couple of weeks. I'm adopting 2 three-year old linnies. They are a bonded pair, male and female. I am reading madly to learn as much as possible. (I've already learned tons here, thanks) I will appreciate all your help in answering my questions. One is the size of the cage. I know as big as possible is best, but what is a good size to start with? How many perches? Thank you.

Welcome to AA!

A good size cage to start out with would be a 32 x 21 flight cage. Perches? At least 4-6. A variety of perches would be best, especially natural wood perches! Dowel type perches are not good for their feet and many "sandy perches" can also be bad for their feet. Rope perches may be okay as long as they don't chew on the perches. Lots of toys, too!

Hi Susan and welcome to AA. I love Linnies and they will love you back. They do like climbing better than flying. They also love to burrow in your furniture and under pillows so be very careful when they are out of the cage that no one sits down before checking for a bird. This is the cage I had my pair in http://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/aande-cage-company-flight-bird-cage-in-white The price is awesome today! Different texture perches is good from natural to rope. Suggest you get no perch that has a rough surface. Linnies have long nails that will need a trim often, about once every 2 to 3 months. They love to eat just about anything you offer them. Looking forward to seeing photos. What color are they?

The linnies are blue and cobalt. They are a bonded pair three years old. I will send pictures when I get them which will, hopefully, be this week.

Thanks for all your welcomes and for the information.
