I know I'm bad...but at least I'm just the foster parent this time, right??

So, long story short, there's a very old female Boa constrictor imperator in need of a foster family to take care of her in her golden years, and make sure she's a good fit for potential adopters. I'm a sucker for senior animals, and snakes, so a senior snake is some kinda jackpot.

I'm proud to be the halfway house for this old refined lady. :swoon:

Aw, how lovely! I hope this old lady finds a home, and I'm sure that you'll give her all the comforts a dignified old snake needs.

That is so kind of you and I'm proud of you for fostering instead! How old is this young lady and when can we see her? What's her name?

She a whole twenty years old! Apparently their lifespan in the wild is a good deal shorter than in captivity, because evidently she could live to be forty!! Dang, I guess she's old for a wild boa and middle-aged for a captive-born.

I'm going to go pick her up later today, and then I'll post a bunch of pictures!

She didn't really have a name upon surrender (well, she did, but her name was Snake and that's boring), and as the foster parent I get to rename her! I don't know if she's a wild type or a morph or really how she looks at all, since she went straight into the vet clinic when her old people dropped her off, so I'll wait until we meet to decide.

I'm so excited!! :chickendance:

I know our rainbow-haired AA resident is sure to find just the right something to rename her. :yes1:

Sounds like she needs an old fashioned, elegant name. :)

I agree, she needs an elegant old fashioned name. I was thinking Dorothea or Beatrice or Florence - something that you won't expect a snake to be named.

Good luck @hrafn! Let us know when she's home with you!

Okay so I found out her full actual story and I'm furious.

Her owner didn't name her Snake. That was put in the form as a placeholder because SOMEONE DUMPED HER OUTSIDE THE BUILDING IN A BOX LAST NIGHT. They left a note that says she's 21, that she's a female, and the size of rats she eats. That's it. He couldn't be arsed to give her the dignity of properly signing her over, just threw her out like trash with a post it note.

I'm so angry. I know that animals get dumped outside rescues and such all the time, but it's so disgusting. Who could do that? After 21 years?!

Boas are big sweet puppies temperament-wise. :swoon:

She's hard to measure but roughly between four and five feet. Not nearly the size I'd expect from a 21-year-old female, as they grow throughout their entire lives. She may have not been fed enough to keep her size up while she was young.

She's gorgeous! And looks right at home :D

I can't understand why someone would abandon a reptile with such specialist needs like that - absolutely horrible.

Yup, a quick chat with my boa-keeping experts and she's definitely undersized. Her length is diminutive, her girth is tiny, and she's a bit triangular which in snakes is a sign of being too skinny. Definitely going to need double feedings at least. She'll be eight feet long and thick as my thighs in no time! Good thing boas love to eat!

I'm no expert, but that sounded small even to me! :jawdrop1:

:( Poor, sweet Hazel.
