This is my imprint Muffin
Someone found him emaciated in the middle of the road about a month ago and brought him into my work. He was about 3 weeks old when I got him but a little developmentally delayed due to how emaciated he was.

For those of you who dont know how imprints work, its not the stereotype of like "ohhh youre my mom". It's more he thinks he's human so he's pretty mentally ill equivalent. A lot of people want to hand raise pigeons because they think they'll be automatically nice and cuddle bugs, but its usually quite the opposite because they dont know how to be a bird. Male pigeons especially play by kind of biting you and a lot of people who arent educated on pigeons think its aggression. Imprint pigeons will often do this almost all the time but it usually is aggression due to them exoecting you to appease them how they want since they think you're the same species and also tend to be pretty bird aggressive. They don't have that healthy fear of new humans but it's impossible for them to make bird friends or have manners towards people or birds.

I don't talk about it a lot since from what ive seen most people here don't care about pigeons that much lol! But I rehab pigeons quite often. Over the past 5 years I usually have a pigeon I'm rehabbing. I havent had my own personal pigeon in quite sometime but Muffin is definitely staying here, i love him so much, but I also don't trust other people with imprints lol.

Anyways! Here is what s baby pigeon sounds like, this is a few days after I got him. This is why they're called squeakers!

And here's right now with his awkward teenage coo squeaks

Also if anyone ever wants pigeon info please feel free to ask me!! I love pigeons almost as much as i love parrots

Ahwww he is so cute! Pigeons are so adorable  Will you keep posting about him? I would love to see more pictures! How is Muffin around your parrots/your parrots around Muffin?
Years ago I helped with a wildlife rescue and got to feed all the oprhaned babies, pigeons, crows, robins, squirrels etc it was the best:D Do the ones you normally rehab get released eventually or are they tame and go to people's homes as companion?

I totally can! I didnt know if people would be interested in my pigeon things lol! He surprisingly does really well with my other birds, I'm sure it helps I raised him around then. They obviously are supervised when out together but they mainly leave eachother alone. Somtimes Muffin wants to try to play with Midge but she just gets confused because they dont speak the same language
Even if the pigeons i rehab are releasable I still try to find them homes as they do so much better with humans than in nonnative territory like a city. Even feral pigeons are really rewarding to bond with! Its a lot more straight forward than with parrots
