Hey everyone...

I just adopted this rescue Amazon. It was from the same group of surrender birds as the Hawkhead that I adopted.

Can any of you Amazon experts identify the species?

Could be a yellow crowned amazon or a hybrid of two different species of amazons.

Looks like he could be a Mealy Amazon. Can you get a picture of his tail feathers and the culverts, edge of inner wings?

He's lovely

I'd say she's definitely a hybrid! That orange on the head right above the nose isn't normal!

I can actually share the pictures with others to see if they'd be willing to guess the species?

Thanks. I took her to get groomed and the bird store said maybe red Lored Amazon based off her size and other factors.

Maybe that’s part of her hybrid.

Feel free to share her pics. I’m just curious. She’s my first Amazon.

Any other tips or Amazon related advice would be appreciated too.

Welcome to the wonderful world!

Mine were my first birds ever.

Warning: You may soon enter the world of amazon sniffers! Yes. Occasionally they MAY emit an odor. Secret very, very, VERY seldom does. MC on the other hand is very fragrant when he's content and being skritched.

I am still going to go with a Mealy. They can have red and yellow on their heads. If anything there is Mealy there that I see eye wise and tail feathers.

Can you get a close up of the back of his/her head nape feathers to see the color?

Regardless, again lovely Bird.

Yes, I smelled that Amazon scent on my way home from the SPCA. It was very strong—musky.

She’s had a rough couple of weeks...surrendered to the SPCA, adopted, and then returned.

I hope she can finally relax and feel at home. She and Jake were brought in together. I adopted Jake a month ago and now Frieda since her original adopter returned her. They sound like two furbies talking back and forth — now that I have her I can see that he has been mimicking her since I adopted him.

A red lored has a red forehead, yellow below the eyes, bluish on top, so I’m not even sure it’s a hybrid of red lored.

As for smell, lots of love, good food, bathing will change that. Our DYH (Mickey) rescue went from horrific smelling to sweetest smell ever in a few weeks!

She is a gorgeous bird!
Mealy's are normally pretty big, how large is your bird? She does have that white eye ring.
Just not sure I've ever seen orange on the head, yellow yes.

She’s pretty small I think. I don’t have amazon experience, but the bird store who does my grooming ruled it out due to her size.

You can see a few stray yellow feathers on the top of her head and they also have that tinge of red/orange.
